Re: "The survivors"

Lost some of the FAAH BETA due to the firewall blocking the processes.
This happens every time a new BETA starts.
Everything associated with WCG and BETA are now on the exception lists.
The only alternative would be to run with the firewall in learning mode, which is no better than off.

I was boinked by the BOINC scheduler.
The i7 is back in panic mode thanks to the BOINC scheduler dumping hundreds of repairs with 2-day deadlines into the work buffer.
It was downloaded in big chunks, one after another, in the wee hours when no one was watching.
The work buffer was scheduled pretty tight already.
Further reduced the work buffer from 1.5-days to 1-day.
There has to be a reasonable number for CPU/GPU days buffered without triggering panic mode.
I have not yet found it.

Re: "The survivors"

RCC

My PC failed in the middle of an update also. It was an auto update, the kind that states don't turn off your PC etc. I will turn off after the update is done etc, etc. So off to bed I went, the next morning PC is still on, some kind of execution failure message, very helpful in determining the problem. After several hours the PC is still on with the don't turn me off message, nothing seems to be happening but can't tell for sure, so it was phase 6 key 22 time.

Everything still seems to be working okay, luckily for me I guess. I don't know what happened to the update, whether it updated or not. At this point I don't really care, its getting too hard to run this thing, I thought I retired from this kind of crapola 7 years ago, but surprise it's still with me. crying I could easily take this thing and chuck it out the back door into the fire pit laughing but the Mrs. wouldn't understand, she is hooked on e-mail and the internet. frustrated

Re: "The survivors"

Burno,

I still have not applied the updates again; maybe this weekend.
Seems like there was a JAVA update in there too.
Running good since the Windoze System Restore.
I use Macrium Reflect (free) for backups and when all else fails I restore from backup.
That came in real handy when I picked up a nasty virus that defied removal.

To get away from technology you would have to move to an island with no power, cell, or Internet service.
In which case they probably would not have air conditioning and flush toilets.

Got the updates installed today.
No problems with Windows or JAVA.
I was on my way to bed and stopped to hug my computer.
Will check back tomorrow.

Re: "The survivors"

The temperature got down into the 20s this morning.
Other than that there is nothing happening here in Georgia.
It is so slow I am watching squirrel launchers on YouTube.

My SNURK signature is not showing, don't know why.
Changed my signature to team stats.

Re: "The survivors"

It's been cold in them thar hills also, 17.4 this morning, but no wind until around 11 am, by then it was around 47, but the wind made it feel colder. It is windy tonight but it won't get as cold as last night. It is suppose to drop only into the 30s, but they forecast 62 by the weekend.

Re: "The survivors"

This area is prone to have winter ice storms that take down trees and power lines.
I am not crazy about snow but it is better than ice.
The last few years have been mild and hope the trend continues.

I see we cracked the 200 mark for team rank at WCG.
I don't know how long we will hold it but we are 199.
That's quite good for a small team.

Re: "The survivors"

When I took over as team captain, a new thread was started and the hope was that I could pick up some new members.
I asked other teams what should I do if I go on the forum and nobody else responds.
The answer was "talk to yourself."
And that is why I am often talking to myself.
Since then we have picked up some new members so the thread has been successful.
Have had a lot of visitors, especially from base camp.
At this time there are 7 active and 2 inactive members.
It is a great accomplishment for The survivors to be ranked 199 of 29,067 teams on WCG.

I hope everyone is doing okay.
