Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

existing computer facilities available to the researchers would require approximately 120 years to perform the screening.

The existing computer facilities available is probably more than one computer with one core operating for 120 years

However, the Global project run time says 138 years of work has been done on the project. How does this work, exactly?

*The equivalent of one computer with one core working for 138 Years or 1,200,120 hours work

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

Hi and welcome to the forums, again.

It means 120 years on your calender i.e finishing by 2131 if run on their own available resources. The grid is going to that work in a fraction. The 138 runtime years is the equivalent of 1 computer core having run for 138 years, the sum of the work done by all our computers having volunteered to contribute to DSFL.

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

Uffff. The WU seem to be very long... I tried with one yesterday, and, when I came back 2h30 after the launching, and... only 0.875% was made... without having reached a saving check-point...

Since I do not let my PCs run all the day long, I decided to abort the WU. It was not running on my quickest PC, so I will try one more WU on it. If it is the same problem, I think I will let the most productive crunchers contribute to this project.

I have the same problem with the project "ECM" / "Yoyo@home" (50 hours to... 130 hours seen without saving check-points...).

Ah, I get it. To truly be comparable, one would need to know what 'their' processing capabilities are, in which you could then figure out how long WCG's power would take as an equivalent.

(Thank you for the welcome, by the way.)

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

The rough estimate from WCG is about 1 year to project completion

Only 1 year of computation ? It is short, isn't it ?

It's one calendar year

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

being we are almost done with week 1 with the project ... yes we had a hickup with work unit 6 and such... curious if we are crunching at about the pace they expected or not....
Statistics Last Updated: 9/5/11 12:05:32

Totals:
Run Time (y:d:h:m:s) 170:340:11:48:14
Points Generated 194,410,020
Results Returned 230,878

I know its probably hard to figure out but if the 1 year time frame is accurate we should be roughly 1-2% into the project then

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

The launch of this project was intended to be low key. We can expect the numbers to increase over time as the kinks are worked out and more computers are attached to this science.
