Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

What martin64 is doing now is to me Bild Zeitung stuff... not to say that he can't have his calculus fun.

Just simple math, not fiction stories as you suggest. Unfortunately, the math is still the same after day 2 of the project: roughly 2 days of crunching, and 2 targets distributed. I guess you would agree that we need to speed up the target rate by a factor of 15 to meet the one year target...

Regards,
Martin

Martin, the snip takes the [light meant] observation out of context from the text that went with it to explain my considerations. Yes we can throw simple math at this, I said so. Also I said we done that too for several other sciences and they're completing several factors faster ... switching to zero redundancy would slash your number in near half e.g, none of the plans or full production stats are available. I did propose to wait a week or two [not redo on the second day].

Ok, so let's wait for the magic speedup. Maybe a GPU version in the pipe? biggrin

Martin

smile Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project (solved)

Hello,

In the beginning (September 2, ) both PC's ended all DSFL in error.
Now one (the most recent) now finishes each WU in 6 to 9 hours.
The other one still ends systematically all DSFL in error.
Both work on Intel, both are HP machines, both run on Windows Vista.
I fail to understand.

This solved itself alone ..... blushing

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

vep, the machine which produces errors for DSfL, can you please reboot it, allow a new DSfL WU to run from start to (hopefully) finish, and if it aborts, post both your opening 2 dozen (or so) lines from your BOINC Messages tab (i.e., upto the point where WU's (re)start being processed) along with the error messages from the failed WU.

Hopefully, that can then give us some clues to go on...

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

As I mentioned during the beta, this is a great project for older machines. (At least running linux.) I've not seen any fail and a P3/1.4 takes about the same time as a P4/2.6HT. (Just have to hope the techs don't screw this one up, as they did HCMD2.)

Re: Welcome to the Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) project

Question, possibly noob but I tried searching the FAQs and Forums...

The Drug Search for Leishmaniasis project page says
existing computer facilities available to the researchers would require approximately 120 years to perform the screening.

However, the Global project run time says 138 years of work has been done on the project. How does this work, exactly?

(Similarly, the Help Fight Childhood Cancer page says over 9000 8000 years of computer time is needed, while the Global page says 35957 years has been done)
