Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

Basically, we've produced too much data for them - and they're struggling managing to store it all.

Hm, it should have been clear earlier, that a grid like WCG produces a lot of data... Very sad, that they aren't able to manage this problem for some time now...

Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

Remember, it's not WCG that has the storage problem, it's the science that is having issues. WCG is simply storing the data until the scientists can receive it. Can't say I blame them from ceasing to generate more of what they can't transfer.

Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

I believe that there was a data buffer which WCG had built into the system, which allowed them to initially run the project at a lower priority. Once that buffer became full and there was still no resolution to the issue of storing the data at the scientists end, that's when the project was placed in a temporary 'holding pattern'.

Obviously, when the CMD2 scientists do eventually resolve the issue at their end, all the data which was generated (and which is being held by the WCG), will then need to be transferred across. Only then, I would have thought, would the project be returned to 'normal production'.

I know, but also for them it should have been clear and they should have calculate their Server and storage ressources accordingly.
Anyway, I hope that they'll be able to solve the problems since this project is surely quite important and I'd like to crunch on in order to help.

Nonetheless, it would appear to me that the currently-queued repair units should be released. Allowing the work to be completed and validated would logically take up less storage space than having part-completed work and partial results.

"They should", "they should" shame on you , you don't ever make any mistake yourself ? angry The issue is perhaps the success of the project and the number of crunchers it gathered : this is what they hadn't expected. And this is fine. applause

Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

Greetings all,

We have turned back on the distribution of results to members for HCMD2. We have increased the storage on our end recently and have space to finish off batches that were previously in some state of processing. What this means to the members is you will get workunits to process to help clear out the workunits that help get a batch to Complete status. There will be new children and grandchildren workunits created, but the number of new fresh work units are going to be minimal and very limited.

Also, the pace at which these work units go out will be at a reasonable rate. Not full speed but enough.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

That's good news for me; I like the small overhead on HCMD2 work.
Got 3 resends _2. Last sent out over a month ago. Hopefully these will help clear the outstanding PV backlog, and cheer a few people up.

Re: Reduced CMD2 project priority

That is great news. I would love to get a Saphire badge for HCMD2, but I think I will have to wait until the project comes back online full time for that to happen.

Uplinger, any idea how many work units are involved with this temporary resumption or for how long we can expect it to last?
