I like the project-filter and COPY facility on the newer version. Those are good. So much better if a fresh logfile was generated on restart and you could control (and access) a user-definable number of generations.
Moving the Messages from its own tab to a submenu - backward step. Bit like the where's-the-common-facility game we're forced to play with each release of Windows. |

Not sure what you mean with ''project-filter" but if talking about the messages and than able to only show the general log entries+the selected project, that's been around from probably before 6.10.58. Factually, via knreed I had it changed to include the ''general'' log messages as originally only project messages were shown. That would make msg log analysis from posted copy/paste sets quite a bit harder... we like to see the setup.
------------------------------------------//-- BTW, the 6.12.32 might turn into a dud. Several reports of phantom uploads stopping work fetches. That is now coupled, so during uploading there won't be any scheduler requests, for instance to force a bundling of Ready to Report tasks. In that, probably not a good idea to run with a 0.00 connect PLUS 0.00v days cache. Visioning some idle time during uploads of CEP2 uploads e.g. edit: inserted "0.00 days" before cache as else it could be misunderstood as any cache ;P [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 10, 2011 5:09:01 PM] |

Having the Event Log in a separate window is a big improvement if you're trying to chase-down something, since you can now easily have both the log and one of the tabs open at the same time. Before in times of trouble you had to constantly switch back and forth between two tabs, and this was very often accompanied with searching for the correct task, upload/download or message on each switch, something that very quickly got very tedios if you've got more than a couple tasks or transfers at once. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Ignore that title change. 6.12.32 has already been declared a bomb, 6.12.33 on the way.
As for installing when the next stable version is out [don't trust that red line message in your client log, read the forums], you can install a newer version over an older without even bothering to stop the client. The installer will do that and retain all your running/cached tasks. Some don't trust this process and run the cache empty, stop the client manually and then install the new version. --//-- |

I f I understand you, when version 6.12.32 will be available v6.12.32 didn't pass testing, so won't be released, and it's a waste of time to install this version. I download installer from website, manually turn off Boinc on my computer, run the installer and install new version? Am i wright? Yes, this will work nicely for upgrading to the next BOINC-client you chooses to install. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." |

... you can install a newer version over an older without even bothering to stop the client. The installer will do that and retain all your running/cached tasks. ... @SekeRob: This works for all *nix clients? I've done that on Windows and Mac, haven't tried it yet on my Linux boxen. |

Good point. How about restoring the previous 'messages' tab and adding a button to generate that separate window; simply invoke the 12.xx Ctrl-shift-E (already written) on the button-click? That would give you both facilities and obviate the inevitable "where's the messages tab" questions as people migrate to 12.xx versions. More buttons? - I didn't even see the filter buttons ![]() |

Very few use that button before pasting a message log with a problem attributed to WCG... wish multi-grid crunching members would... much easier to focus. :D
(Think to see another [rarely read] dedicated FAQ boiling up, something like "BOINC: Filtering the messages log for easier analysis and problem reporting.". Just added a topic to me ScribeFire add-in as reminder) --//-- |
