BOINC 6.12.26

BOINC 6.12.26 has been released by Berkeley.
This is now the recommended Boinc Version by Berkeley (not WCG, still 6.10.58 I believe).

Re: BOINC 6.12.26

Not recommended by WCG and not sure why not retracted at Berkeley it having such things as hibernation and orphaning issues. Already we had fast-tracked 6.12.27 and just out 6.12.28 .

Feel free to test at WCG and report bugs over at developers forum: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

Do I need to uninstall current version (6.10.58) of WCG when new version becomes availible or I can stay on this version? If I need to uninstall this version, on which way I can do this that I dont lose projects that I am running at this moment?

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

I suggest keeping the stable and recommended v6.10.58. There's no reason to upgrade.

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

Hello markop619,
No need to install it unless you want to be a beta-tester for BOINC and report errors on the BOINC website. You should be able to install over your current BOINC. If you are as cautious as I am, you will suspend your BOINC projects, reboot, then install the new BOINC version, then un-suspend your BOINC projects.

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

If you don't want to test stick to 6.10.58 (or 6.10.60).
If you do want to test, report any problems (or successes) via the Alpha email group. You need to register to be on this email group.
Test 6.12.28 rather than 6.12.26 or 6.12.27.
It might be better to uninstall first, as there are some reports of losing the .msi file when trying to upgrade, but I did not have to.

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

Are there issues with the 6.12 series? I updated to 6.12.26 a few weeks ago (and to 6.12.28 today) and so far I haven't seen any problems. I have 6.12 on both my boxes - my work PC (under Windows XP) and my home Mac (under Mac OS X 10.6.7).

@ humdinger70

at least for me, I've never had any problems with BOINC 6.12.x - even when running GPU projects additionally to WCG.

Re: BOINC 6.12.27

There are a variety of problems with 6.12.26 - 6.12.28.

I have been getting about one system freeze per day since moving from 6.12.26 to 6.12.28, but I also installed a WHQL video driver around the same time that could be the cause, or it might just be down to the recent high temperatures. Nothing in the system logs to report, which suggests heat or video driver rather than 6.12.28. Added a few more cc_config flags though, and might even send an email to the alpha group if something turns up.
