ScreenSaver flashes

Is anyone else seeing their "World Community Grid" screen saver flashing when it is active? I just installed it on my desktop (been running on a win XP laptop for years).

My machine is running Win 7 64bit, 4 Gb ram, 500Gb system drive and 3Tb Raid drive.

I saw this thread but doesn't look like anyone has found a cause/solution yet: http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=1717

Re: ScreenSaver flashes

I noticed that if I use the "show graphics" button on the BIONC Manager the graphics do not flash.

Re: ScreenSaver flashes

Flash as in, bright white flashes of light or flash as in no picture?

I've noticed on one of my PCs, that it sort of "stutters" as the graphics load for an individual WU, but then it becomes normal.

graphics are fine when not in screensaver mode.

Never used to be a problem... did somethnig change in BOINC?

Re: ScreenSaver flashes

Does it happen when BOINC tries to switch between projects? I know on the systems that use the screen saver, I change the settings to not use the BOINC, rather the projects and to make them only switch like every hour.

Hello arkin,
No changes in BOINC that I have noticed. Could you post the start of your Messages tab so that we know more about your system?

Re: ScreenSaver flashes

This has been happening to me too. Just started this week. Usually it happens when my hand is on the mouse and I'm not typing. Once I move the mouse the screen goes back to normal. I'm crunching C4CW this week and haven't been switching between projects or updated BOINC. Here's the start of my Messages tab:

Re: ScreenSaver flashes

Thanks wchoff,

You have just disproved all my tentative hypotheses. smile

At this point, I will just remark that shortly after switching from the UD project screensavers to the BOINC project screensavers, I decided that the multi-OS BOINC screensavers were much more primitive and more likely to cause video problems, so I switched to Space and then to Blank.

Which is a kludgy way of avoiding screensaver problems, but it works for me.
