Pity would be no more,
----------------------------------------If we did not make somebody Poor: And Mercy no more could be, If all were as happy as we; And mutual fear brings peace; Till the selfish loves increase. Then Cruelty knits a snare, And spreads his baits with care. He sits down with holy fears, And waters the ground with tears: Then Humility takes its root Underneath his foot. Soon spreads the dismal shade Of Mystery over his head; And the Catterpillar and Fly, Feed on the Mystery. And it bears the fruit of Deceit, Ruddy and sweet to eat; And the Raven his nest has made In its thickest shade. The Gods of the earth and sea Sought thro' Nature to find this Tree But their search was all in vain: There grows one in the Human Brain William Blake 1794 ![]() |

Great poem, Neil!
----------------------------------------We start out innocent till life experiences darken our hopeful vision and blind wonder. The symbolic concept is complex and unfortunately quite sad. At times, we are our own worst enemy. Minds can change behavior of self and/or collectively, the world we live in. "The Tyger" Tyger Tyger, burning bright, In the forests of the night; What immortal hand or eye, Could frame thy fearful symmetry? In what distant deeps or skies. Burnt the fire of thine eyes? On what wings dare he aspire? What the hand, dare seize the fire? And what shoulder, & what art, Could twist the sinews of thy heart? And when thy heart began to beat, What dread hand? & what dread feet? What the hammer? what the chain, In what furnace was thy brain? What the anvil? what dread grasp, Dare its deadly terrors clasp! When the stars threw down their spears And water'd heaven with their tears: Did he smile his work to see? Did he who made the Lamb make thee? Tyger Tyger burning bright, In the forests of the night: What immortal hand or eye, Dare frame thy fearful symmetry? -William Blake |

Don't believe the things, you tell yourself, so late tonight.

What is so sad about that is, when it comes back, you say "Did I actually say, and do that? Oh how I wish I hadn't." Words have no meaning until they are followed by action. Choose your words carefully and act even more cautiously. I'm sorry I ever said it In anger the words were flung. What folly we speak in a lovers pique When temper controls the tongue. My hasty remark was silly And I wish I had it back. For the moment, dear, you went out of here I thought of a better crack. ![]() |

O NAVIS
----------------------------------------by: Lope de Vega (1562-1635) OOR bark of Life, upon the billows hoarse Assailed by storms of envy and deceit, Across what cruel seas in passage fleet My and sword alone direct thy course! My pen is dull; my sword of little force; Thy side lies open to the wild waves' beat As out from Favor's harbors we retreat, Pursued by hopes deceived and vain remorse. Let heaven by star to guide thee! here below How vain the joys that foolish hearts desire! Here friendship dies and enmity keeps true; Here happy days have left thee long ago! But seek not port, brave thou the tempest's ire; Until the end thy fated course pursue! ![]() |

O NAVIS Ah, remorse ... Clearly a more lovely, classic version of the one previously posted - needing no translation ;) Now you say you're lonely You cry the long night through Well, you can cry me a river Cry me a river I cried a river over you Now you say you're sorry For being so untrue Well, you can cry me a river Cry me a river I cried a river over you You drove me, nearly drove me, out of my head While you never shed a tear Remember, I remember, all that you said You told me love was too plebeian Told me you were through with me and Now you say you love me Well, just to prove that you do Come on and cry me a river Cry me a river I cried a river over you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Gn9A-kdsRo |
