Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Took off a few days to visit family.
Pleasantly surprised to see the additional submissions. smile

Here's another --
"The Windmills Of Your Mind"

Round like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending on beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream
Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly?
Was it something that I said?
Lovers walk along a shore
And leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand?
Pictures hanging in a hallway
Or the fragment of a song
Half-remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong?
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair?

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning
On an ever-spinning reel
As the images unwind
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

I cannot just be me anymore

I have to be .....

Both of Them
Together
We
Let's
Hand in Hand
You know Whatshisname and Thingamebob
Right for each other
Like 2 Peas in a Pod
Chalk and Cheese but somehow it works

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

David, I liked your "I cannot just be me anymore". Bev thanks for the Monster Mash, that is a childhood favourite, here is another childhood favourite of mine David Bowie's shame!
Anyway, in 1984 as a boy I enjoyed this verse from Lord Tennyson's "Lady of Shalott".

She left the web, she left the loom,
She made three paces thro' the room,
She saw the water-lily bloom,
She saw the helmet and the plume,
She look'd down to Camelot.
Out flew the web and floated wide;
The mirror crack'd from side to side;
'The curse is come upon me!' cried
The Lady of Shalott.

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Not sure it's poetry, but I like anyway...

I LOVE MY JOB

I love my Job, I love the Pay!
I love it more and more each day.
I love my Boss; he's the best!
I love his boss and all the rest.
I love my Office and its location -
I hate to go on vacation.
I love my furniture, drab and gray,
and paper that piles up each day!
I love my chair in my padded Cell!
There's nothing else I love so well.
I love to work among my peers -
I love their leers and jeers and sneers.
I love my Computer and all its Software;
I hug it often though it doesn't care.
I love each Program and every File,
I try to understand once in a while!!
I'm happy to be here, I am I am;
I'm the happiest Slave of my Uncle Sam.
I love this Work: I love these Chores.
I love the Meetings with deadly Bores.
I love my Job - I'll say it again -
I even love these friendly Men -
These men who've come to visit today
in lovely white coats to take me away!!

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

@ David Autumns - Love, the universal language we all can relate to.
If we're lucky enough -two halves together can form a romantic whole.
More please! smile

Mysterious love, uncertain treasure, hast thou more of pain or pleasure!
Endless torments dwell about thee: Yet who would live, and live
without thee!
- Joseph Addison

@ sunfolk - Re Laughing Gnome - "hahaha hehehe" - A riot! biggrin
...and thanks for sharing "Lady of Shalott"...

@ cjslman -"I Love My Job" - lol - I know several people who will appreciate
that humor as much as I did. Forwarding it post-haste. biggrin

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

Roof rafters creak, crack and crunch
Distant dogs bark
Sky scurrying clouds look to scoot and hide
Gates swing, Doors bang
Unexpectedly
Crisped in a freshened and clear light
Golded autumn leaves fight losing wrestles

The storm is on it's way

The storm is on it's way

Afraid so, Dave ...and that piece brought to mind this one:

Foot Notes - [*insert coffee stain here]

What time is it? Can't sleep
Sounds of laughter and the sharp
CLICK-CLACK of heels
Echo thru the empty street.
Two lovers, I suppose -
Sharing
the dark summer air,
the smell of the future
and each other ...
A dog BARKS - the quick
r
u
n
n
i
n
g
pace
of its Master follows - I wonder...
WHO is in greater need of the airing?
Cars stop - move on --- SILENCE now
I'll wait...
What's that? Someone whistling -- ah yes, of course!
"In the wee small hours of the morning" ---
da da de da da da da da de
Egads - 4 AM - SLEEP - I NEED SLEEP. sleep

Each time we meet
My defiantly ballet dancer
never knows

How absolutely beautiful she is
-in every way
(to me)

She'll never know
and I never said

Re: Poetry - just poetry ....

shhh She'll never know
and I never said

Dave, Joe Cocker would probably agree with you wink

...and from a favorite film...
She's Like the Wind
She's like the wind through my tree
She rides the night next to me
She leads me through moonlight
Only to burn me with the sun
She's taken my heart
But she doesn't know what she's done

Feel her breath on my face
Her body close to me
Can't look in her eyes
She's out of my league
Just a fool to believe
I have anything she needs
She's like the wind
