Re: UK

It's amazing how much "fightaids@home" slows down your production.

When I was doing "help cure cancer" with the same machines it was double the productivity!

Re: UK

Belated thanks jonnieb! It is a pretty stylish globe, if I do say so myself... weekend production should be good, a couple of pretty new quad cores about to be left on for a couple of days.

I haven't really ever targeted a particular badge, I just let 'them' decide what to give me. The only preference I have is not to get clean energy project 2 tasks, as I run some pretty old machines which wouldn't coupe.

Re: UK

I run CEP2 on a few machines, the ones that have enough memory to do so (my 12GB gaming PC will run 4 at a time). The only project I've disabled is CfSW, as it has different issues on Windows (frozen tasks running endlessly until client is manually restarted) and Linux (using massive amounts of RAM compared to all other projects).

I tend to run the full spread of projects, apart from the above restrictions, until I hit a badge for a project - I'll then disable that one, until all projects catch up with that one, then I'll re-enable them all again.

Having just hit Sapphire for DSFL, I'm going to leave that one disabled for a bit, so the other badges can get to Sapphire. Once they have, I'm probably going to run HCC/HCMD2/HPF2 primarily, for a while, to concentrate on those...

Re: UK

From CavemanJoe of improbable island, writing about their distributed supercomputer:

Now the world has got its problems, we know that to be true.
But curing AIDS ain't something that just anyone can do.
You know you're no biologist, and you failed chem lab too,
But you can BOINC. Oh yes, you can BOINC.

You can BOINC on your desk or you can BOINC on your lap,
You can BOINC in your pocket if you just download the app,
You can BOINC with all your friends or just with any random chap,
You can BOINC, oh yeah, you can BOINC.

Now more than half the world today's in abject poverty,
Folks are dying of starvation, and that don't sit right with me.
Now I don't have the cash to have the whole world 'round for tea,
But I can BOINC. Oh yes, I can BOINC.

I can BOINC in the office, I can BOINC at home,
I can BOINC with my wife or I can even BOINC alone,
I can BOINC until we've figured out that final proteome,
I can BOINC, oh yeah, I can BOINC.

We'll get power from the sun so that we don't all have to choke,
But the cells we use today seem like a pretty awful joke.
I want to make them more efficient, but I'm just one hairy bloke,
But we can BOINC. Oh yes, we can BOINC.

We can BOINC all together, we can BOINC in pairs,
We can BOINC in the living room or we can head upstairs,
We can BOINC until the bed breaks and we have to use the chairs,
We can BOINC, oh yeah, we can BOINC.

Now cancer ain't a welcome guest, it often quite offends,
With a not-so-subtle "hello world" that kills our closest friends.
But with our super BOINC computer we'll have cancer meet its end,
'cause we'll BOINC. Oh yes, we will BOINC.

We will BOINC in our houses, we will BOINC in the streets,
We will BOINC while we shower, we will BOINC between the sheets,
We will BOINC until our BOINCing gear is rendered obsolete,
We will BOINC, oh yeah, we will BOINC.

You can BOINC with your pants on, you can BOINC in the nude,
You can BOINC if you're a lady, you can BOINC if you're a dude,
You can BOINC if you're in porno, you can BOINC if you're a prude,
You can BOINC, oh yeah, you can BOINC.

We will BOINC until we're tired, we will BOINC until we're sore,
We will BOINC to overheating, then we'll BOINC a little more,
We will BOINC until the world's not such a bloody big eyesore,
We will BOINC, oh yeah, we will BOINC.

So let's Berkeley-Open-Infrastructure-for-Network-Computi-i-i-iiiiiing, oh yeah, let us BOINC.

*sniff* so beautiful... I can't even be annoyed at them for technically being a bigger UK team... But I'm glad the keeping uppermost in the forums tactic is beginning to work!

HCMD2 is finishing/finished! wink

@ Kashi Gorton For the UK team to achieve daily crunching parity with IIDSC is a distant, but not impossible, target! We just need a few more committed members (preferably with a small farm each) smile

@ gordoma We're in the same boat! wink I too passed CfSW gold in last night's update and am crunching for Ruby hoping to get there before the project ends.
Post from the CfSW forum:

Current estimates show about 3 to 4 weeks left of new work going out. Workunits from the last batch will be numbered 19131.

...The date seems to be slipping as I'm sure they said it was going to be 3 weeks a couple of weeks ago? Hope that's enough time for you to get there. Assuming my laptop doesn't decide to freeze again or the kids don't turn off the media PC again (it was off for nearly 2 days before I noticed) then I should hit Ruby in just over 2 weeks.

... still looking for an extra machine to crunch on!

Re: UK

I wasn't sure about HCMD2, as I'm still getting the odd few workunits, here and there...

Re: UK

Like you Kashi, I have also switched off CEP2 for the moment and then just wait to see what the servers chuck at me. As my machines are not usually on for long periods of time, I found I was shutting down in the middle of a long checkpoint so ended up losing several hours of crunching.
Still getting the occasional CfSW and HCMD2 units though.
