Re: UK

What-o chaps! Thanks for the welcome.

Haven't quite the same crunching power as some of you guys. At the moment it is more like a crunching window box than a farm but it all helps.

Onwards and upwards, pip pip tally ho!!

Re: UK

As jonnieb-uk said, when I first joined only using a dual-core laptop and a painfully slow dual-single-core server, every little bit of crunching helps...

I'm lucky, in that we do a lot of server-testing in work so, while I may not stick with specific servers for very long (apart from my gaming PC and the original two machines mentioned above), I do get to make use of the likes of dual-quad-core Xeon servers occasionally...

The current "toy" is a 10-server cluster with VMWare, so I have four 4-core VMs running continually (albeit restricted at 1.5GHz per core to keep the physical hosts from getting too over-used). Once it's settled down, I may be able to add more on...

Well, in one weekend, that's the Ruby signature-badge, along with Emerald badges in SN2S and HFCC! biggrin

All projects now re-activated, and working towards Sapphires...

Re: UK

Welcome to the team Genhos!

My move is going to happen on the 3rd aug, so my productivity will dig significantly for about two weeks or so after this.

Re: UK

Indeed every bit helps towards the ultimate goal. Only running part-time on 2 cores at present but hoping to increase that in the not too distant future, increase the size of my crunching window box.

Nice to be able to stress test a few servers now and again, nothing like that for me unfortunately. Don't think the boss would let me loose on the works server, would probably end up melting it. Bit like a sauna where the server is stored!

Re: UK

Well, the VMs are now settling in nicely:

VM#1 (which started as an 8-core):
---
07/23/2012 : 0:002:10:04:55 : 12,538 : 16
07/22/2012 : 0:004:06:23:27 : 23,056 : 33
07/21/2012 : 0:002:05:07:27 : 11,955 : 18
07/20/2012 : 0:004:01:24:01 : 17,213 : 28
07/19/2012 : 0:003:11:43:28 : 16,946 : 24

VM#2:
---
07/23/2012 : 0:002:18:39:13 : 13,604 : 18
07/22/2012 : 0:003:23:54:48 : 21,731 : 24
07/21/2012 : 0:001:16:35:42 : 8,089 : 13
07/20/2012 : 0:002:10:41:01 : 11,389 : 17
07/19/2012 : 0:000:08:23:46 : 1,298 : 2

VM#3:
---
07/23/2012 : 0:002:07:24:32 : 9,759 : 15
07/22/2012 : 0:003:20:47:32 : 18,927 : 28
07/21/2012 : 0:002:04:47:52 : 11,031 : 18
07/20/2012 : 0:000:23:37:42 : 4,208 : 7

VM#4:
---
07/23/2012 : 0:001:21:32:10 : 10,091 : 13
07/22/2012 : 0:002:13:03:53 : 9,664 : 20
07/21/2012 : 0:001:05:01:15 : 5,770 : 10
07/20/2012 : 0:000:15:43:36 : 2,350 : 7

Quite a bit of difference in the results, despite the four being identically-configured VMs, because I only noticed over the weekend that CFSW uses ten times as much memory as the other projects and I'd tried to configure the VMs with as little memory as possible (768MB per VM). I've disabled that project on those four machines, now, so hopefully they should settle down over the next day or so and start doing similar amounts of work...

You worry too much!

chuck a heat monitor program on it so it reduces the performance and keeps it to a set temp.

Job done :D

Re: UK

Or use it a good excuse to explain to your boss the usefulness of having a decent air-conditioning system fitted in the room the server's in! Even a portable one would work, although you'd need a window or similar to vent the hot air out of...

Increased server-performance, better protection against over-heating, win-win! biggrin
