It was enough to put me back into the number one spot in the team. Not sure how long it will be before Thargor catches me!

TARGETS and THREATS

We should overtake IBM Massachusetts in the Points rankings in tonights update. There are no short term threats but Kansas State University Runtime, HTCMania Points and IBM Canada Results remain credible medium term threats. Consistently strong daily figures from Lisa and localwurst make them credible medium-long term Points and very long term Runtime threats. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Jul 18, 2012 7:44:16 AM] |

It was enough to put me back into the number one spot in the team. Not sure how long it will be before Thargor catches me! It'll be a fair while yet, but the new cluster is coming along nicely - eight machines are ready, two to finish off tomorrow morning - that currently totals 70 cores and 100GB of RAM for those eight servers. Should do a fair bit of work, once it's fully built and BOINC is installed and crunching! ![]() I did, however, manage to completely break the server I built on Thursday last week, though! Who'd have thought that removing a disk from a RAID-1 array (which should be safe) would have completely destroyed all data and forced the machine to reboot - got to love ancient hardware! ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Thargor at Jul 17, 2012 6:22:20 PM] |

@ Thargor How does the 70 cores/100GB RAM compare with what you had previously when you were crunching at full speed? I'm keen to track the improvements in the daily contributions of yourself and crooks_uk so keep us posted on progress with the new installs.

When I was crunching at full-speed, I had:
----------------------------------------1 x dual-core Core2Duo laptop (still going, when I'm not travelling to/from work) 1 x twin dual-core Xeon (old) CPU server (still going 24/7) 1 x quad-core i7-920 (still going, when I'm not gaming) 1 x 8-core VM (was 24/7, now disabled during 6am-6pm weekdays) 1 x dual 8-core Xeon server (was 24/7, now being rebuilt as part of this cluster) 3 x other AMD machines a friend was donating time from (only one of them is still crunching) Once this cluster is up and running, I'll have: 1 x dual-core Core2Duo laptop (when I'm not travelling to/from work) 1 x twin dual-core Xeon (old) CPU server (24/7) 1 x quad-core i7-920 (when I'm not gaming) 1 x 8-core VM (disabled during 6am-6pm weekdays) 1 x unknown AMD machine (the friend's machine in his work test-lab) 2 x dual single-core Xeon (ancient) CPU server (24/7 but very slow) 1 x cluster-farm (will be around 80-cores, split into multiple VMs) ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Jul 17, 2012 7:41:44 PM] |

I'm looking forward to the increase in research that your new cluster farm will produce Thargor. Should move the team up a few places!

Indeed, I'll look forward to how jonnieb-uk's stats change, when it gets rolling properly...

Should move the team up a few places! As a rough guide to the prospects for the UK team, our RT performance over the last 12 days (i.e. before any significant impact of Thargor & crooks_uk increases in capacity) ranks us at #57 compared with our AllTime rank of #92. So in broad terms there are 35 places up for grabs! Over the coming week I'll develop my target analysis to reflect this. ![]() |

As expected IBM Massachusetts are consigned to history as the UK team advances to #85 in the Results rankings. The target now becomes Something Awful Goons estimated at 16 days.
