@ genhos Alternatively, since we're in this for the long run, get yourself promoted to replace the boss!

All of us in the office have tried to persuade the powers that be to get some air con for the server but the usual answer is "it's too expensive". They did try one of the portable ones but the exhaust vent tube did actually start to melt! Which you would have thought would have acted as more encouragement to get some proper air con but.......... nooop

Have just added and configured VM#5 to this new cluster, it's set up the same as the other four (768MB RAM, four cores restricted to 1.5GHz per core).

Unfortunately I have not seen the increase in performance I had hope for. My workstations that only run WCG when idle are not idle very often!

After the recent issues with the workunit-servers, I'll leave mine going for a few days before judging - looks like a nice increase from the five VMs, though (despite being limited to the equivalent of 1.5GHz per core), as they're not doing anything else!
----------------------------------------![]() EDIT: looks like there are a few issues with VM#5, so I doubt it's going to be doing much overnight - will check it properly in the morning. Despite having plenty of free memory on both the physical host and the virtual machine, the client is still coming back with regular "Waiting for memory..." statements on all work-units. Migrating to another physical host hasn't helped, very bizarre! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Jul 24, 2012 8:14:05 PM] |

In my notes on UK team performance for June I noted that:

And the issue with VM#5 does appear to be related to the VM......even when allocating 2GB of RAM to it, instead of the normal 768MB the others are running fine with, and moving it to one of the "known working" physical hosts (and putting a stable VM (#4) on the physical host #5 was on), VM#5 still exhibits the same issue and #4 remains as stable.
----------------------------------------Will let #5 finish its current set of workunits (unfortunately I'd switched it from the Default profile so it grabbed 2 days worth of workunits), then I'll wipe it and re-clone a new one from one of the existing working VMs. Very odd, though... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Jul 25, 2012 10:41:49 AM] |

The impact of recent improvements to the UK team's crunching power have now worked their way through to my forecasts (I use a 7day average) and the Targets & Threats analysis now looks very healthy.
---------------------------------------- I will publish the full list as part of the monthly team stats next week, as it's too lengthy and time consuming to construct as a forum post. An extract will however be posted shortly. ![]() |

Days to Overtake For a team to be identified as a Target the UK must have outcrunched them over the last 7 days (and vice versa for a Threat ). As can be seen ALL the threats, with the exception of localwurst Points, have receded. |
