Elsewhere in the forum a user posed the question Is there a process to "retire" inactive team members? Not sure why you'd want to retire Inactive members other than DOA. keithhenry captain of MyOnlineTeam posted in reply:
----------------------------------------......The whole orientation of WCG is load and forget. Keep it simple so even the complete computer illiterate can do it. All of this shows through in how WCG works. There's no way to merge or retire devices. There's no practical means of communicating with any or all members of your team. The vast majority of WCG members never look at the forums and even fewer post to them. Given that the objective is to get as many computers crunching WCG as possible, this all actually makes sense. Keep what the user must do to the absolute minimum. So, what changed my mind about retiring inactive members? Seeing what happens pretty regularly each time WCG sends out a newsletter/mailing. I love seeing one in my inbox! Afterwards, I almost always see an inactive member start crunching again. Sometimes, they crunch even more than they were doing before. It's the newsletter/mailing that gets them going again because they see the last time WCG got a result from them. It reminds them that they had started crunching but, for some reason, they're not now. They address that and, boom, you have an active member again. So, once a member joins your team, they will always be a member of your team unless they go figure out how and explicitly quit your team. I agree wholeheartedly with the thrust of the response though I would argue that making available a member's email address available to a team captain as a condition of team signup would be beneficial without departing from the basic "load and forget" principle. On a side note, the imminent 8th birthday of WCG will presumably generate the global mailing/newsletter that Keith refers to and maybe that will give a nudge to some of the Inactive members in the UK team. ![]() |

The introduction of HCC GPU double size WUs resulted in the UK team's total Results dropping from an average of 4,798pd to yesterday's total of 3,193. Within which HCC dropped from an average of 3,919pd to 2,306. All predictions for progress in the Results rankings are now invalid until a 7day average is re-established.

After an unispiring day's crunching for the UK team 0:245:17:04:38; 1,476,279; 3,193 7day Average Runtime down to 265.6 This is in part due to: 1) My quaddie's powerpack went south this morning, it's and being repaired, but it'll be a day or 2 before it gets returned (the lengh of time depends on the quote I get from the shop regarding putting an I7 9 or 800 series CPU in there, so it may well return as as an Octo???). 2) My I7-870 has restarted it's annoying habit of freezing / shutting down (twice today, lost over 7 hours of crunching time), it's the Kernel 41 problem on Win7 that has been left un-resolved by Microsoft.. (if you don't have it, everything okay, if it develops (usually after service pack 1), then you've got it for good, no known work around )..It's had new Powerpack / Graphics Card & Ram and still playing up.. Win XP here I come ![]() ![]() ![]() |

if it develops (usually after service pack 1), then you've got it for good, no known work around )..Is reinstalling the OS a fix? (I would assume that it would be, but your statement says otherwise, hence the question). I have this on one of my machines - not good. ![]() |

Nope, I'm afraid a re-install didn't work for me, I did that when the PSU was changed out (crossing my fingers, thought I would re-install as well), it worked like a dream for all of a couple of months, then low and behold, it started again 3 nights ago
---------------------------------------- Bar changing the OS to XP or Linux, I have tried every suggestion I've come across (and there are more than a few), nothing has worked ... (wouldn't trust Win 8, seeing how badly they've botched Win 7, and don't get me started on Win Millenium.. I didn't bother with Vista, but heard that was a pile of ^&&* as well )Just waiting for all results to finish and be sent back, then I'll try Linux, if I don't/can't get on with it, my local PC shop has a couple of XP Homes OEM's for a good price. ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by themoonscrescent at Nov 15, 2012 2:51:27 PM] |

Ooo, that kernel 41 error. Have had that a few times on my Win7 laptop too grumbling about windows shutting down due to lack of power when it's on mains, it's a right pain in the proverbials.
