andzgrid " And yes, WCG is gearing up to dive into GPU-computing. ETA: very soon! "
----------------------------------------Good to read about that . I just hope your not pulling chain there ;p I am building a new crunching box around the idea that CPU is not important . that means as many , fast as i can afford , Vidio cards in it as will fit and make run . Used card and the like . I just have to find a used mother board with quad SLI . I realy dont Use the SLI or Crossfire thing right now .I love the way that you can just plug everything in to a slot load the drivers from ATI and Nvidia and BOINC will find the GPU's and use them. I will watercool every thing so noise wont be a factor and then OC it all and see what happens . I would like to stay to put this on line here but there is no GPU usage here. SORT OF...SLI is NOT the best way for most Boinc Projects right now! Each card running independently is best, we are not gaming. Also there IS a small file you will need to put in the Boinc data directory called cc-config.xml, it is small and can be made by anyone with Windows NOTEPAD, do NOT use a Word Processing program use a TEXT EDITOR!!! It is very basic has about 6 lines and just says to use all the gpu's in the system, by default Boinc only uses one, which is what most people have. ![]() ![]() |

Thanks for the info about cc-config.xml . I will look it up and do it .
the Computer i just finished building to replace one of the duel cores I have currently up is leak testing rite now , and when i get a OS on it I will make sure to make that file . I was just wondering why it is not all ready there . Is it a problem if it there and there is only one GPU installed ? I would like to bring the new computer on line and not retire the old one For a few days , That is the one iI am pulling the second GPU from . |

The file [cc_config.xml] is default there on Ubuntu's RPM install and with WCG's skinned Windows version 6.10.58 with supplemental options, but not in the Berkeley plain vanilla distros. The WCG version has for instance the <start_delay> option in there for faster access to the user at sign in. Then when the user is in, BOINC will start silently in background.
From what I understand, WCG is going to provide additional Help items for the GPU Beta and production crunching volunteers, when the time is there. Default on the My Projects / Device profiles / Beta enrollment page will be opted-out, so no one ends up accidentally with these units on a machine, at office and college in particular, so these users wont see a sudden jerky mouse and there spreadsheet views updating in slow motion. --//-- |
