I think DNETC also used ATI and nVidia both, but it has been down for a few weeks or more. Not sure what is going on there.

If you want to game and leave Boinc running, use setup cc_config.xml and use the exclusive app setting to add your games.
<exclusive_app>filename.exe</exclusive_app> |

I think DNETC also used ATI and nVidia both, but it has been down for a few weeks or more. Not sure what is going on there. DNETC is down because is on the police. Charges for illegal software, etc. In original from OxyOne (Poland language): Zawody odbędą się w innym terminie. Nie wiem kiedy, ponieważ serwer DNETC@home jest na policji. Przeciwko mnie postawiono zarzut posiadania nielegalnego oprogramowania itp. I like this project too, but I mean that it dead :( ![]() |

Zawody odbędą się w innym terminie. Nie wiem kiedy, ponieważ serwer DNETC@home jest na policji. Przeciwko mnie postawiono zarzut posiadania nielegalnego oprogramowania itp. This is a rough translation of what I guess the project admin said,Posiadane przeze mnie komputery to: DNETC@home - debian, mysql, apache, php :) Notebook ASUS - LMDE - Linux Mint Debian Edition służył do pracy. Komuś bardzo przeszkadza projekt DNETC. Czas jaki potrzeba na powrót serwera nie jest mi bliżej znany - ale wróci... Competitions will be held at another time. I do not know when, because the server DNETC@home is with the police. Allegations against me to have illegal software, etc. My existing computers are DNETC @ home - debian, mysql, apache, php) ASUS Notebook - LMDE - Linux Mint Debian Edition used to work. Someone is very annoyed and does not like the DNETC project. The time it takes to return the server is not known to me - but it will come back ... |

Thanks for the translation. This is good to know.

I've found that the BOINC versions through 6.12.* offer little if any support for GPU workunits written in OpenCL, but the 6.14.* series is planned to add such support. Not ready for even alpha testing, though.
----------------------------------------Milkyway@Home has worked around this by finding ways to use OpenCL GPU workunits even without much BOINC support. POEM@Home is already using OpenCL for their CPU workunits, probably to be ready to add GPU support once there is a sufficiently reliable 6.14.* BOINC version. I suspect that even more BOINC projects planning to add GPU support are starting with OpenCL and waiting for 6.14.*, but haven't decided to announce it yet. You are about #1500 in line for this. In the meantime, you can choose to load WCG and let your CPU crunch away while you are waiting. Is there anything that we can do to speed up the process? I mean the WCG would jump light years ahead with GPU support...its a real pity that we cant build folding farms based on GPU's on WCG. You might try what I'm currently trying - learn the relevant computer languages and choose which BOINC projects to help with programming. |

OpenCL 1.1 has not yet been released by NVidia, even though their latest cards (Fermi's) support this.
You can however use a pre-release, http://developer.nvidia.com/opencl Might be worthwhile looking to the future; it could take you a long time to get up to speed. Good luck, |

Those of you with a military background will remember that the first step in an operations plan is an Estimate of the Situation. I have been following this thread with interest, but the comment that WCG could jump light years ahead if we only had a brain . . . er-r-r, I mean GPU project of course . . . has convinced me that I should post my entirely unofficial and personal Estimate of the Situation. You already know that HCC has been programming a GPU version. We are in the earliest stages of Alpha testing. [Please remember - there is no guarantee that we will be able to move into Beta testing. We might find a critical bug and have to send it back for more debugging. ] Knreed says that BOINC 6.14 would make supporting GPUs running on OpenCL much easier, but that he can overcome the difficulties. But another comment he made is worrisome [at least to me]. He says that none of his personal GPU cards will run it. To me, this means that only a few members will be weird enough (I mean sagacious enough) to have the correct GPU cards to run the HCC GPU project. (We have a lot to learn about programming to use many types of cards. Our initial project will teach us a lot about this.) So we had better be thinking about progressing light-seconds rather than light years at first. But these are the sort of difficulties that we have to expect as we get our toes wet in GPU computing. Each year it will get easier to program GPUs and more grad students will be able to write GPU programs. If WCG shows a successful history with GPUs, this will encourage prospective projects to consider supporting GPUs right from the start. If we can gather a critical mass of members with GPUs, we might even get some projects written only for GPUs, saving the effort needed to write 2 different programs to do the same thing. But this is a long multi-year slog. We are working on it, but I expect no sudden bursts of fireworks. This is more like growing an azalea seedling. Eventually we will have a mature bush producing large flowers. Lawrence |

He needs a useful GPU; running a GPU emulation on the CPU is not the way.
I would not expect any significant progress until OpenCL 1.1 and 6.14 are fully released. While it's one thing learning with 1.1 it's another thing starting to write, troubleshoot, debug on pre-release and alpha software. So my estimation of the situation is that he needs a useful GPU, a bug-free OpenCL kit and a new Boinc... WCG might be able to help Boinc along and fork out for a card, but we will all just have to wait for the arrival of OpenCL. I think the projects that already use GPU's in-house are using cuda, not OpenCL 1.0. |
