How about a GPU message board, if only to dump all the GPU threads into a common location.

Hi Sekerob I hope BOINC is better than Folding@Home GPU client, because I had to do a lot of research and fine-tunning with it so I can have 100% GPU usage and no much BSODs/lag. I'll search a BOINC GPU project just to see how it performs after reinstalling Win7 as I mentioned on another thread. Cheers. http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/ is a generic gpu project that can use your 4670's with no problem. You MAY find that NOT using crossfire though is faster, it depends on a ton of things, it is best to try it both ways and see which is best for you. Yes you can run BOTH a cpu project AND a gpu project at the same time and Boinc will figure out how to make both work together. NO you do NOT have to run both the cpu and the gpu on the same project, in fact in the older versions of Boinc it is best NOT TO! If you just go into Boinc and sign up for a gpu project most of your questions will be answered as you start to process work. One thing to remember though, in MOST cases you MUST load the gpu drivers manually for Boinc to recognize it. If you open Boinc, down by the clock in Windows, and go to the Messages tab or the Event Log as it is called in the newer versions of Boinc, go to the top and look at 10 or so lines down and you will see that Boinc either found or did not find a gpu. If it found one you are probably good to go, if not go the manufacturers website and download them. Saul you have a unique situation and will have to load the drivers TWICE since you have two gpu's. But you should restart the pc in between so Boinc will know you have two and not just one. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by mikey159b at Dec 20, 2011 2:01:43 PM] |

Maybe it's in IBM way not to force any gpu proj. in WCG, i dont know.
----------------------------------------Anyway, my 460 crunch simultaneous gpugrid, and it's ok. Maybe some day wcg will bring out a gpu app to, some far far away day. ^^ ![]() |

oldDirty (and other GPU supporters),
----------------------------------------If you take some time to look at these threads Help Conquer Cancer September 2011 Update and HCC with GPU you will find that it is not so "far far away". Keep watching new beta test announcements in the coming weeks**. ** Sorry, I don't know how many weeks, and even if I knew it I would not be entitled to say it. |

But your saying that you can't say says so much...
----------------------------------------As for the GPU front, anyone who is still asking when obviously isn't familiar with the search feature as these threads are really hard to miss. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

If you are interested in grid/cloud research processing using GPUs then this Wired Enterprise article will be an interesting read. The article specifically relates to the coming flood of gnomic data that will need analyzing and how GPUs can help. |

Nice link there, CaptainMidnight. Very informative. The GPU has been instrumental in driving growth of genomics data, and the resulting 'big data' is now prompting the need to look into using the same GPU to this time help analyze the ever-increasing volumes of those 'big data'. That seems to me to indicate that everyone is convinced that the GPU is the key to it all, and that the CPU (and smaller devices such as FPGAs) will remain an integral part of the research infrastructure moving forward to both drive the data and analyze them.
And yes, WCG is gearing up to dive into GPU-computing. ETA: very soon! ; |

Most older WCG forumers know already, but since it is your first post (welcome here, by the way) it is a good opportunity to remind it once more:
----------------------------------------World Community Grid never announces dates before the real start. The main reason is to avoid unnecessary harmful pressure on people who are developing the applications (the scientists) or who are enabling their setup inside WCG (the WCG techs). Other reasons may be - the need to reshuffle priorities for operational reasons - to not compete with an official communication plan by Public Relation people etc... ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Jan 13, 2012 5:09:28 AM] |
