Hi MrHasselblad - always nice to see you here
![]() The first time you checked in here I suggested you might be a photographer. Now I see so many airbases that it's got to be an Air Force carreer that has moved you from place to place. Have you settled down somewhere for good now? |

I presently own two properties; one which is generally located in suburban Pittsburgh.
Used to be a USAF career. Surprisingly though no comments about one of those bases I used to be at - just look to the NE of one of the bases listed. As you noticed early on, yes I'm a full time career photographer; doing a portion of my work locally, but a majority of my work involves extensive traveling. |

The one I noticed was the Langley.
I also noticed the two European Airbases, of which I may find the UK the more peculiar. But Langley rings NSA in my head. Otherwise I'm not even familiar with the Danish Air Force. Full time photography? Do you have a website with some samples? Recently I visited two German websites with photos to dream of .... I'm sure yours are too. One is this another this I think we ordered some 34 or was it 37 F35s at a price that make me tremble .... |

I am a private pilot, yet also licensed to carry paying passengers. I'm extremely disappointed by the F35; all of the variations of it. There's nothing quite as bad as these three items on the F35: The VTOL having a mechanical driveshaft - much like some automobiles, the cost, and by far the worst - that it can easily be taken from the air by any number of 1980's era jet fighters.
As for the photography website; unfortunately for now it is for paid clients only; due to contractual restrictions - sorry. When using some of my nicer hardware the individual pics can be 2.4 gig each. |

Your assessment of the F35 rings in unison with that of an old friend of mine.
He advocated a Swedish fighter plane. Those pictures are BIG! Far, far bigger than these our Dutch co-cruncher made of his very neat woodwork. I'm no photographer, but I virtually always bring my tiny Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 that fits so nicely in my palm ![]() Now, what was it you wanted me/us to notice about the places you lived? |

It's on my service and work resume...
Indian Springs (not many people call it Creech AFB) is located SW of Area 51. The entire off limits area exceeds 5,1oo square miles. About cameras in general; I would rarely recommend most of the professional models to most people; it's much better to have a camera that one feels comfortable with using rather than have one sit on the shelf because someone doesn't feel comfortable using it |

Are you originally from Pennsylvania?
----------------------------------------I met a couple of Pennsylvanians, and I found their spoken American very nice. Do you make photos for advertising, portraits, or National Geographic? Sorry, I'm a bit to the curious side ![]() That's approximately 1/4 of my country! Former nuclear bomb testing area? EDIT: Happened to stumble upon this, MrHasselblad - and this below, which Photobucket just recently gave me access to. They are Thunderbirds flying at Karup Air Base, Denmark. The plan was that they should give a full performance, but while they stayed in Italy before coming here they ate something that was bad for them, so most of the pilots were unable to fly that day .... Even as they didn't fly full speed, it was next to impossible to catch them with my little Sony. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at May 29, 2018 5:25:23 AM] |

My photography career can be divided into a number of categories.
Plane testing photography. A variety of subjects recently including the F35 (mostly the VTOL variation - all the way back to first prototype), the X32, the unmanned "space shuttle" X37, a variety of space launch projects - mostly low earth orbit. Especially like the civilian space programs, more so the ones which land vertically. Also including a variety of unmanned planetary explorers - even nuclear powered ones. Also enjoy working on photographing a variety of commercial and corporate aircraft, even private ones. Trying to land a gig with Branson right now, if he might ever get around to returning my phone calls :( Although that's the bread and butter work there's also the much better creative side. I've photographed quite the number of weddings, portraits, on-location fashion, etc... The base in Nevada is too strange to try to explain. One of it's many, many former uses was to unfortunately test a variety of weapons; including atomic, nuclear, and even chemical weapons |

Your professional life sounds very fulfilling, MrHasselblad.
Looking at photos is very fascinating for me now. I think what made me focused - if I may say so - was an exhibition of Magnum Photographers' works in New York City in December 2001. Ever since I have gone to exhibitions when I have the chance. Do you do exhibitions? Trying to land a gig with Branson right now, if he might ever get around to returning my phone calls :( I'm glad that I'm well equipped to understand 'gig'. I was explained that:... 'gigs' are held at gaffs and it was further specified this way: - you have been to one of Johns Gigs held just down the Frog from Johns gaff.. at his local brown bottle shop These people were English. I really didn't expect 'gig' from an American. But I do hope for you that Branson gets around to answer your phone calls ![]() |
