Re: Where are you from?

There isn't a big difference between pronouncing 'speurneusen' and 'speurneuzen', people from Amsterdam will sowieso say 'speurneusen' in their dialect. biggrin ('sowieso' is a loanword from German, meaning 'anyhow'.)
'honds' is special; it means '(to treat or to behave) like a dog'. In this context however …, I don't think you will be misunderstood. Dutch people will probably think that you must be a foreigner, they will probably try to guess your accent to tell where you're coming from ("Are you from Scandinavia, little mermaid?") and maybe they will start talking in English to you. Which doesn't help at all if you're trying to speak Dutch. If they start correcting your pronunciation, it's your lucky day, they have time to help you!

EDIT: pronounciation→pronunciation

Re: Where are you from?

Sowieso is 'so oder so' in Danish wink
- on loan from Germany as well.
Thank you for reassuring me that speurneuzen/speurneusen would be understood at least in the Amsterdam area.
The 'honds' is a little more problematic, I understand
- either I have to learn the proper plural or I must change my behavior thinking

Yes, I would think sticking to Dutch with a helpless foreigner instead of switching to English is a sign of commitment.
I hear we Danes are 'helpful' in the same way leaving foreigners little chance to practice their Danish.
Thank you for taking time out from all those OCR-pages hugs to guide me once more, Adri.

And, yes, I'm from Scandinavia, and normally I don't behave like a dog but like a zeemeermin

EDIT: Amstermam -> Amsterdam

Re: Where are you from?

Thank you laughing
Now, adriverhoef, I don't need to
fake one or
pretend one or
spend oceans of time
transformning into one not talking
.... I need to go the opposite way if I 'walk' sad
the streets Rotterdam crying
- luckily they have water, water, water along them cool
You live in a very zeemeerminfriendly country
- now, how do you say that in Dutch?

Re: Where are you from?

You live in a very zeemeerminfriendly country
In Dutch:
Je woont in een zeer zeemeerminvriendelijk land.

How did we arrive here? Easy. You said, little mermaid, "I don't behave like a dog but like a zeemeermin", so I searched for the Dutch equivalent of "to behave like a mermaid": "je gedragen als een zeemeermin", so I found this page and at the bottom of that page there was this Act Like A Mermaid link. smile

Re: Where are you from?

Detours often take you to nooks and crannies you would otherwise not stumble upon.
I enjoyed your zeemermin cult trip
– it must be for real this mermaid fashion fad,
because when I search for mermaid pictures amazingly much artificial stuff turns up
that would transform you into something believed to be mermaidy
- as if mermaids could be created commercially .....

I also like that we beached with a pretty alliteration:
zeer zeemeerminvriendelijk
not only the zeer-zee but continuing into the meer
that curls it tail back to the zeer …

And what has that to do with where we come from?
In my world of chance, fate, and coincidence:
Nothing and everything.
On real world terms I can testify that you do come from a zeer zeemeerminvriendelijk country
– probably meer zeemeerminvriendelijk than any other I have been to

Re: Where are you from?

Nikosim, thank you very much for telling this biggrin
Perhaps you would like to put France into your Forum profile?
Then it will be visible for everybody like my 'Kingdom of Denmark' is til the left of this post.
You KLiK 'My Forum Profile' ^^^ up there in the grey bar and fill in France and Paris too.
Which melody dealing with Paris is your favorite?
Should you by any means be a member of the francophone team Kraland?

Once again, thank you for reacting, and thank you for crunching peace

Re: Where are you from?

NiceMedTexMD wrote this in the Base Camp team thread:
acpartsman, I see you are in Martinsville. I live in Virginia Beach now. How's your neck of the woods?
Thank you for this opportunity to air my pet peeve, NiceMedTexMD biggrin

NiceMedTexMD of Team My Online Team who has an admirable Forum Profile himself so we can see he lives in Virginia now
- and not in Texas as he used to and as his name suggests
has been able to see that acpartsman of Team SeriousCrunchers is from Viginia, too.
This is possible because acpartsman also has a Tony Ellis class Forum Profile.
GeraldRube from NiceMedTexMD's own team MOT also is from Virginia and carries a fine Forum Profile, as does Virginian TKizzle who is the Captain of Team Easynews.

It looks like Virginians are good at making Forum profiles .... idea

Informative Forum Profiles are helpful in many ways
When did you last look at yours?
Which information do you offer to your fellow crunchers?
How often do you check on a fellow cruncher and find:
biggrin Information at the same good level as your own?
sad No information at all?
