Fixed one of main crunchers that was malfunctioning. Sorta a amazing how much mantainance these computers require when you run them full out 24/7! Then when they probably have done an unimaginable numbers of calculations per day I guess it is not. Probably like being amazed that one has to change the car motors oil after 3000 miles only to realize at proximately 2000 rpm on average that that is a lot of revolutions. Gerald you are scaring me! I will send Franky after you! Went from high of 105 yesterday to 57 this am. Crazy weather. Good night all!

Please don't send Franky after me sad your scaring me--downloaded Ubuntu 11.04 on two machines--they crunch HFCC two hours faster than Windows!!--Linda in Kingsland said they got about a inch of rain and cold--Love you MOT smile

Hope everyone is doing well. There has been a large area rain over much of Texas. And it has been in the high 40s f. Hopefully this will quell the massive grass fires that we have been having.

Gerald: I think there is a major performance improvement between windows based machines and Linux based machines for most projects. The only one that seems to be fairly close is HCC.

When you say 2 hours difference, what is the base hours? Do they take 6 hours on a windows and 4 on Ubuntu or 10 and 8 or ... (Trying to estimate a percentage improvement)

Ha ha! I remember when you and RT were neck and neck. Guess a house fire can ruin your day! Cool in Laredo which continues to be a nice change! Oh, concerning Ubutu I have tried to run it and it runs fine. The issue I have is I can not connect to a wireless modem using Linux and thus can download, connect to or run WCG on it.

You should go to Ubuntu forums and submit a question as to your wireless setup--they will answer it-- smile

On Windows 8.25.53--Ububtu 7.34.35--but there ia a small difference on all my machines--but faster than Windows also i have two Windows 7 machines running
