this is irritating. does it happen to you? why does it switch from one to the other and leave so many half completed. if i was running a 20 core machine (we all wish) i wouldn't be quite a upset, but this dual core with 21 partials is killing me. btw, the two it is currently working on are on another page.

Yep, it's irritating at best and one of the things I truly HATE about the 6.10 level of BOINC. As for dealing with it, bring up Advanced - Preferences on that machine and increase the "Switch between applications every N minutes" to a large enough value that it switches back to the earliest (and soonest due) WUs. You'll see that it will switch to "Running high priority". If you have gaps of unstarted WU's between the partials, you can suspend those unstarted WUs until the partials are done. Keep an eye on their due dates though. You may need to resume some of them and let them complete so they finish in time before clearing out all your partials. It does seem to me that this problem is worst when you have a fairly large cache so you may want to think about reducing it. With the erratic supply of DDDT2 WU's, we're all inclined to bump our cache up to get what we can when they have some. This is one of the "complications" from that.

Agree with Keith. Looks like you have too much cache for a dual core. Maybe trimming it down to 1 or 2 days would help.

I agree with Keith and nanaprobe. I keep a .8 day queue on my machines. They include single processors, duals and quads. I have seen the same problem that you have parmesian but much less severe..most likely due to the queue size. In theroy, it should all work out except that it causes more disk I/O and depending on if the suspended tasks are in memory or not, it could cause thrashing (page faulting)--overuse of virtural memory.
---------------------------------------- I bet if you reduce the queue, this problem will mostly go away in n days where n is your current queue length minus the amount you reduce it to (assuming that you reduce it to 1 or so) |

My duo cores and all of my quad cores have a 2 day cache and I have not seen this problem.
