Re: flagU.S. Air Force Team-Come fly with usflag

Going to first try out. Trying to keep internal temps low. Hope to have enough flow to keep semi-cool air going through the CPU cooler.

Might be hard with 2 video cards folding. I tried it both ways with an H-50 and got 1c lower with in but I don't fold so I didn't have to contend with the heat they produce. I'm assuming that your case has a top mount fan bracket so that should help. Good luck. Awesome build. Looking forward to seeing the numbers.

The HAF932 case has 1-230mm fan over the 2 GPU's pulling in, 1-230mm fan up top pushing out, 1-230mm fan up front pulling in, 1-160mm fan on the bottom pulling in and the radiator pushing out.

I hope with that amount of airflow case temps will be quite reasonable.

I set up temperature probes in the HD enclosure, main case area near the GPU's and in one of RAM cooler housings. I will check temps once I am up and running. biggrin

Re: flagU.S. Air Force Team-Come fly with usflag

Up and running.
100mhz X 45 =4.5GHz at the moment.
Did not mess with voltage yet.
Running 65-67c. Seems warm. chicken
I have zero experience overclocking so I am clueless until I do some learnin on this thing.
All done with my brain surgeon trainin so I got plenty of time for new learnin. tired

If you're running @ 4.5 GHz. with everything on auto and/ or with an XMP profile I can pretty much guarantee that your Vcore is higher than it needs to be and that's why it's running at your current temps. You should be able to get 4.5 with less that 1.3 vcore. Get the newest version of CPU-Z (I think it's 1.57) and that will give you the info on voltages, BCLK, Memory speed etc. Your temps are ok so you won't hurt anything by letting it run. With water you should be able to get at or very near 4.8 or possibly higher with your current temps.
Look and see if there is a BIOS update for your board. Very important.
Let the fun begin. biggrin

Re: flagU.S. Air Force Team-Come fly with usflag

Vcore waffles between 1.283v and 1.29v. If I want to get to 4.8GHz am I adjusting just the CPU Ratio only or combined adjustment of BCLK and CPU Ratio and vcore?
Is the memory speed adjusted seperately? The only setting I see for memory is voltage and it's at 1.5v.
Bios is most current 1101

It's normal for the vcore to fluctuate slightly. Your temps do seem a little high for that voltage setting on water. You may have to turn your rad fans around.

There is not much headroom to adjust the BCLK on SB mobos. 104 is usually about the max. 100 is probably the best setting for now until you become more familiar with all the settings. CPU ratio and vcore are the primary settings you change to overclock. .
Is the memory speed adjusted seperately? The only setting I see for memory is voltage and it's at 1.5v.

Highlight "Memory Frequency" that will give you options to set higher frequencies. To adjust voltage highlight "Dram voltage" and type in the voltage you want.

Here are some settings I found that may help.
BCLK 100. CPU Multi 49. Vcore 1.36

-Intel PLL Overvoltage Auto (Try auto. I suggest "enabled")
-LLC Max
-VRM Frequency change to 350
-Phase Control change to extreme
-Duty Control change to extreme
-RAM manual timings
-HT ON

Everything else is at auto.

I took the above info from here.
Are we having fun yet? biggrin

Re: flagU.S. Air Force Team-Come fly with usflag

The forum you posted looks like a great spot for info and I will make good use of it.

Still trying to find where all the settings are. Bios does not list alot of the settings you listed in your post so I will search around to try and find them. I think that this board allows users to share bios settings via files or USB devices so I hope that I can find them somewhere.

So far by upping voltage to 1.36v and just changing multiplier to 47 the CPU temp has dropped to a steady 63c. That at least makes me feel better.

I used the stock thermal grease on the vantage cooler and wonder if I should clean it and get some arctic silver to improve the thermal transfer. Any thoughts?

Was going to ask about that i'd use arctic silver, cant hurt to reset the heat sink too, it may bring the temps down if you got a bad seat the first time.

Probably a good idea. Not sure how good the stuff that comes preinstalled works. As a rule your temps will drop some after a few days of "burn in" as the paste spreads out and cures.

Re: flagU.S. Air Force Team-Come fly with usflag

The bios listed at the Asus website as most current is ver. 1101 and that is what I have. Not sure if there is a beta bios or older bios that people are listing the settings from. There is also the possibility that I just have not looked deep enough into all of the sub-folders in the bios to find the listed settings.

I will hit the store Monday and get some arctic silver.
