Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We have passed another benchmark with CEP2: We have now generated more than 7.5 billion WCG Points! Well, well, not bad at all!

That's 930 ExaFLOP: http://bit.ly/WCGDSH . "Just" 70 more and you've got the first ZettaFLOP in calculations.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

The first tape backup of the CEP2 data is on the way – for the time being using the old Harvard FAS-RC tape robot. Research Computing will get a new robot with high capacity cartridges early next year and we’ll make a fresh copy then. But for the time being, the old robot will do fine. Having all our data backed up on tapes as well (so far we have data redundancy on hard drives only) does a lot for giving us peace of mind.

Our friend Sekerob has compiled new crunching data and let us know that we already accumulated 930 ExaFLOPs! Wow... Feel free to share!

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Bad news: Chris – our goto person and resident angel at FAS-RC - will leave Harvard at the end of the year for a job closer to his family (he has a pretty bad commute to Cambridge and it wasn’t sustainable). This is a big bummer for CEP and we are all very sad to see him leave. But at the same time we totally understand his decision and are very happy that he gets to spend more time with his family. It was a lot of fun working with him and we are very grateful for all he’s done for our project! Chris, we'll miss you a lot and we wish you all the best for the future.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Sorry to see such a key person leave but it happens in all companies and in all aspects of life. He made fantastic contributions to society and will be remembered for that. Make sure you pick his brain fully before he leaves!! heh.

Good luck Chris and once you get to that new job, remember to fire up CEP on your computers there!!

Best wishes:

Aaron

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We recently relaunched a large scale study of very big CEP2 wus on our local odyssey cluster – we don’t want that machine get bored over the winter break biggrin.
