Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

cleanenergy, it just goes to show as to how much interest there is when scientists keep us crunchers up to date with progress/news.

A lesson some of the other projects/scientists could learn/take on board biggrin

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Last weekend was the recruitment weekend for new grad students for the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard. We made a lot of advertisement, both for WCG and CEP2 by themselves as well as for the next generation of students to work on the project.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Ooh, I just noticed I got my emerald badge. Once I get this other laptop online I am hoping I get my 2 yr diamond is it? within a month. Barring any unforseen circumstances it should happen I hope.

Next we need a 5 year badge. Call it the stone of geekdom or the foundation stone of nerdopolis or something :)

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Thats just simply amazing. When you consider technology 5 years ago, heck* just 2 years ago, the steps we have made....

Another point of interest, not to offend those of christian background....

we have generated more years of computing time on this project than since the birth of christ. This project has dug back into time to what, the bronze age? the iron age?

Im hoping a year from now, we are so far back in time, dinosaurs are walking through our boards :D Yes that is a stretch but maybe with a little luck and good will, the first mentioned milestone will help us accomplish the second.

I hate to burst your bubble, but dinosaurs walked the earth about 4 orders of magnitude ago. I applaud your enthusiasm, but that would tens of millions of years. A laudable goal, but definitely not realistic.

Roberto has been implementing some improvements to his molecular library generator. It’s become even more elegant now.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We had another problem with one of our servers this morning. We just got word from the Harvard Research Computing Department (which hosts our servers) that one of their 'datamovers' that export filesystems across the RC infrastructure had failed and that their backup did not kick in as intended. This caused a bunch problems throughout their equipment, including one of our servers. It should be an isolated occurrence, but they are investigating why the effects were so pervasive.
The good news is that the interruption was hence due to 'higher powers' and not caused by CEP equipment failure - even though that may not be a consolation to some users.
Things had been running very smoothly since our previous blip when Ms Piggy approached capacity, so it's a shame that this streak was broken. But we are optimistic that we are back to normal now.
