Quick non related question. I am noticing in BOINC that the total credit for work done is showing up fine for my other projects but for some reason WCG is only showing maybe 5 to 10 percent of what is reported on my home page/ account page.
For example, my points for WCG are almost 1.1 million now, yet in Boinc it is reporting me as 155k for points on the desktop of any of my machines. Any ideas why this is? Aaron |

Hi Aaron,
Basically the reason is that when WCG started, it wasn't using the BOINC engine so it set up its own point with the original UD engine. The UD engine is defunct. To keep it simple, the point shown on this website is exactly seven times what you earn in BOINC credit. You can do the math to verify this. There is a plan to covert this entire site from UD to BOINC but it is very low priority. There is a FAQ that explains this if you are interested. Josh |

@anhai: Yes, the smaller molecules not only run faster, they also are less demanding on the hardware. But small molecules are unfortunately not the only ones of interest. So we are back to 'No (scientific) gain without pain'

Some of us went to a talk last week at MIT by Michael McGehee, Associate Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Director of the Center for Advanced Molecular Photovoltaics at Stanford University. He talked about ‘Organic and Dye Sensitized Solar Cells’ and discussed some of the polymeric systems his group works with.

Roberto was awarded a fellowship to attend the USC-Department of Energy Conference on Materials for Energy Applications - Experiment, Modeling and Simulations at the Terranea Resort in California from 30 March-1 April 2011. Congrats!!!

Quick question, now that the WU's are smaller and more user friendly. Is there any chance of relaxing the minimum memory requirements a bit so they can run in older / slower / ... cough cough... crappier...machines?
I have a laptop that I tried to run it on and was told I need 760k ish ram but only have like 480 available. Was just wondering with the smaller w/u's if there was any way I might be able to squeeze some on there or is it still a no go? Thanks Aaron |

Hi Aaron,
since the small wus won't last very long we have decided against changing the prerequisites. Sorry about that. We feel that it would probably cause too much confusion for users and this would outweigh the benefit of a few hundred extra CPUs for a few weeks. Optimizing the utilization of a grid is a tricky business because it is just such an unusual computational resource. Sorry again and thanks for understanding. Best wishes from Your Harvard CEP team |

Our research log is by now the most visited thread in the CEP2 forum. It’s even more popular than the Recognition Thread
