Any insight about which cards are going to be compatible, or which OpenCL version is going to be used?

Remember reading OpenCL 1.0.
----------------------------------------That sort of means most 'recent' cards will be 'compatible'. However, some cards will be more compatible than others ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Dec 28, 2011 6:53:40 PM] |

Hello, there is a update news about hcc with gpu's http://www.cs.utoronto.ca/~juris/WCG/UPDATE-SEP2011.pdf Only Linux and Apple are the Systems to use. merry x-mas That was a September 2011 update so hopefully between then and now they have expanded their abilities to cover Windows machines too. If they are doing Quarterly updates we should know soon. ![]() ![]() |

I think it'd be reasonable to assume they will start with Linux and Apple and expand as they are comfortable with the application stability and performance. This way they have a chance to get their server side infrastructure sorted out on reduced load before opening things up to the guys with quad 590-GTX cards.

And to be honest the Linux and Apple crowd together is probably smaller than the Windows crowd, but probably more techy overall. NOT as individuals but as a group. ![]() ![]() |

If there will be an OpenCL app for CPU's, it would make sense to beta that first.

OpenCL is for GPUs, not CPUs. OpenCL (Open Computing Language) is a framework for writing programs that execute across heterogeneous platforms consisting of CPUs, GPUs, and other processors. OpenCL includes a language (based on C99) for writing kernels (functions that execute on OpenCL devices), plus APIs that are used to define and then control the platforms. OpenCL provides parallel computing using task-based and data-based parallelism. It has been adopted by Intel, AMD, Nvidia, and ARM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCL ![]() "Patience is a virtue", I can't wait to learn it! |
