At 04:40 GMT/UTC, we seem to have run through all the Type C identifiers, so is that the end of this shower?

OK. According to SekeRob, distribution is 11 WUs per second, so 1593 * 2 / 11 / 60 = 4.8 minutes that's a very small window to get any work for the larger batch (assuming two copies per WU): 100000 * 2 / 11 / 60 / 60 = 5.05 hours that's better but still leaves a high probability of not getting any work That is the simplest "overall" perspective. Since there are 11 active sciences, lest all 3400 C Type land in the hopper at the same time, on even distribution is will be an hour [and many hits of ''no work available for...]. Since the DDDT2 distribution priority is set to medium or low, meaning each task distributed for DDDT2 has a small interval before a new one is put in the feeder, it may have taken a bit longer, but doubtlessly, the vacuum will have been it's standard max... gone before hitting the floor. From past production of C type, it seems like about 25-30K will get out of the hoppers daily, when the 200K+ are released... more ain't put in. Good luck to the hunters. --//-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 20, 2012 6:31:13 AM] |

Good luck to the hunters. Moonfishing: I fished during the night 35 between 02:59 and 03:21 UTC (although I was awake at that time, I was not aware that fishes were biting). Fish catch: 33 pc's, 1 pd and 1 pl. |

I got 34 WU during the night!
----------------------------------------It rained here from 03:13 UTC to 07:51 UTC I got 1 or 2 at most each time, feeding is slow. So a much larger window than the ~6min i was anticipating, Thanks SekeRob, you were right, and I am glad, since, that means that in case the distribuition of the 200k WU proceeds at the same speed, we will have a few days rain! Edit: Jean-David, good to hear you got a good share of WU this time!! [Edit 1 times, last edit by ccandido at Jun 20, 2012 11:14:41 AM] |

Well I did get one, which finished and is now in PV, a Type C which finished in 3.84 hours, enough to get me within 24 hours of the Sapphire. A nice birthday present!

Edit: Jean-David, good to hear you got a good share of WU this time!! Yes. I am delighted. Three of my 4 processors are working on them, and 3 or the work units are done, taking around 10.6 hours each. BOINC client is already asking for more and not getting them. But if whoever said that at the current rate of consumption of work units, the rain may continue for a few days, I might even get some more. The other processor is doing Clean energy. There are two more dddt2 ready to start and another Clean energy ready as wel. I wonder why it is taking me so many hours to do a work unit with 3.06 GHz Xeon processors. These are old ones and I got the ones with the 1 Megabyte L3 cash (the largest available at the time (2003), but I am pretty sure the L3 cache is too small. They cost $600 each at the time. Considered obsolete now. 3.06 GHz processor with 533 MHz Front Side Bus where the memory goes through. It is double wide (64 bits) but unless I am lucky, the processor is starving for instructions and possibly for data as well. I have 8 GBytes RAM, so my machine essentially never pages. It has been up for a week (since last kernel update) and has paged only 660 KBytes to disk. |

[apologies if you have already checked this]
In the wcg Device Profiles select your profile (probably Default) and click the "Custom Profile" button. Scroll down to Advanced Options/Processor Usage and check that the "On multiprocessors, at most use" value is large, e.g. 64 processors. Also make sure that "On multiprocessors, use:" is set to 100 (%). A complication is that a given device can override the profile. You can check that by selecting the Advanced View of the BOINC manager, then Advanced=>Preferences=>processor usage and check that you can use "at most" 100% of the processors and 100% of the CPU time. I'm sure this better said in some FAQ somewhere... |
