Where were you in those 2 minutes? If I guess right on when those two minutes might be, I was probably asleep. But my main machine was running with three processors idle, and one running Clean Energy project. they only go to devices that are rated reliable (such as always returning work under 2 day on average) I do not know how to tell if my machine is perceived reliable. I do not know how long a type a work unit would take on my machine. I have two hyperthreaded 3.06 GHz Xeon processors with the 1 Megabyte level 3 cache. Linux thinks that they are four processors, and when nothing else runs, they all run flat out on BOINC. When I am running stuff, they seem to be equivalent to around three processors, but it depends on what else I am doing. I used to run lots of database stuff, but not in the last three years or so. So my machine is mostly idle except for web browsing and e-mail. |

Hi Jean-David
----------------------------------------I am one of those people who have not been able to get any DDDT2 WU, so far. I usually find a way to get the WUs i want. Until very recently i didnĀ“t have the beta badge. I kept the forum page open and refreshed it often so I could get the updates with the project's news. And when the work arrived i was lucky to be one of the first to know and then I just changed my preferences to get work only from that project (beta in that case). I was doing work for other projects. You don't need to keep 3 cores starving. Your computer will not ask for additional work more ofter just because its starving. Keep a small buffer of clean energy wu, then when there is work change the preferences and next raise the size of the additional work buffer, as has been recommended in the forum. Anyway, its just my opinion Good luck |

I cannot sit watching this thread all day and all night in order to change things. When I notice that there is no rain, I allow things to run with 0.25 days queue. When there seems to be a shower, I set all BOINC projects except WCG to GET NO TASKS, and set the queue size to 9.25 days. The only WCG tasks for this machine are Clean Energy and DDDT2; the others I run on my other machine that is too small for these two tasks. This does result in three cores starving. I have gotten 14 tasks since DDDT2 started, for 7 days credit. I let just one Clean Energy run at a time. I am afraid if I run more, then I will be busy during the few seconds a month when DDDT2 tasks are available. I guess I might allow two Clean Energy to run, since my Linux kernel thinks I have 4 processors. |

Hi Jean-David, you don't have to sit looking at the thread all day.
----------------------------------------I don't, and that is why I said I was lucky getting work right when it started. But if you look at it from time to time you might get lucky. Of course, this might be difficult for some people, given their different jobs, but since my job involves being at the computer all day (and part of the night), its very easy for me to have a look from time to time. A new batch of dg05 work units has been submitted to BOINC and should be sent out within the next eight hours. This batch contains 1593 work units (two copies of each will be sent out). If all goes well with this initial batch, the remaining work units (100,000+) will be released within a couple of days.

OK. According to SekeRob, distribution is 11 WUs per second, so
----------------------------------------1593 * 2 / 11 / 60 = 4.8 minutes that's a very small window to get any work for the larger batch (assuming two copies per WU): 100000 * 2 / 11 / 60 / 60 = 5.05 hours that's better but still leaves a high probability of not getting any work [Edit 1 times, last edit by ccandido at Jun 19, 2012 11:23:47 PM] |
