Re: Join The International Team

On multiprocessors, at most use: 8 processors
On multiprocessors, use: 100% of processors

I am not sure if it matters, but I always put in both numbers.
It sees 8 on my HT machines and does 4 on the other one without HT

Re: Join The International Team

8 cores show in task manager and hyperthreading isn't an option in bios. Checked twice just to be sure.
Next suggestion? smile

Ok, if you have 8 "cores" in task manager then it should basically work...try the settings that Jack posted and see if that makes any difference. On my 3930K I did not have to set anything up to make it work but it may be worth a try.

Also, unless you have the latest version of BOINC, try to upgrade and see if that helps.

Re: Join The International Team

I had the latest installed and it too ran 4 so I installed an older version to no avail. I've tried reinstalling the newest one again but can't get on the Berkeley site.
I'll try again tomorrow. I'm just wondering if I should install a new OS. I have 7 Ultimate I can put on it. It has Home Premium now.

Re: Join The International Team

Don't get that dramatic, home premium works fine for all my rigs.
Did you try my suggestion of both numbers 100% AND 8 cores
in your device profile?
I don't want to insult you, but did you change the RIGHT device profile?
(I'm sure you did, just throwing that out there, sounds like
something I would do LOL)
I'm sure you've done both of these things since you have bothered
to install different versions of BOINC.

Re: Join The International Team

Hi Jack. Never hesitate pointing out the obvious, that's what gets overlooked most often. confused
I did try playing around with the settings in both boxes. I'm still trying to get the latest version but Berkeley has been offline since yesterday for some unknown, unposted reason so I'm at a standstill till they get the site back up. angry

I mention reloading the OS because I'm wondering if there's something in there that may be preventing it from using all resources. The OS on the machine came preloaded so I don't know what setting they may have put in place.
On my other I7 machines, I installed the OS and used Ultimate on them all and it functions without issue.

Re: Join The International Team

Damon, could it be that since it is a new PC, it got the "Default" device profile at WCG and that the settings there are set to max 4 cores?

In BOINC, in the event viewer, it should say how many CPUs it is using. Something like this:

7/2/2011 5:07:24 PMReading preferences override file
7/2/2011 5:07:24 PMPreferences:
7/2/2011 5:07:24 PM max memory usage when active: 3954.23MB
7/2/2011 5:07:24 PM max memory usage when idle: 3954.23MB
7/2/2011 5:08:11 PM max disk usage: 0.21GB
7/2/2011 5:08:11 PM max CPUs used: 4
7/2/2011 5:08:11 PM don't use GPU while active

What does your event log look like?

Re: Join The International Team

I've had it set all the way up to 16 cores and 100% and GPU. Nothing I do makes any difference.
I would like to reinstall the newest version but the Berkeley site is still offline, & nothing on the boards about it (that I've seen)

Re: Join The International Team

If I can't figure out anything soon I think I'll go ahead and load my 7 Ultimate this weekend. I've been a little concerned about what might be loaded along with the preload anyway.
