FWIW my linux-within-windows caught a couple while crunching CEP2. So same hardware for windows / linux, adding a virtual layer to the latter, but the same pattern: faster wus, less points. One thing to consider: the newer CPUs have turbo boost (turbo core on AMD) that overclocks the frequency when some of the cores are not being used. So maybe the virtualized linux is only using one or two cores while Windows is idle, so they run faster. At least that could be my case. This morning I completed a Beta WU on a Quad-i7 laptop, running Ubuntu 10.04 on VirtualBox with only 2 cores assigned. Right now I have a couple of betas on the same machine, but in Windows, along with two DDDT2 WUs (thus, probably no turbo boost). I'll see later how they compare, assuming this would be an apples to apples comparison. |

Last task I got was, 15/08/10 17:37:04, so I guess that's it.

Well, this is embarrassing. It turns out that in the "virtualboxed" linux I didn't have any beta WU
----------------------------------------So... moving on... I do have some DDDT2 WU's to compare, but I'll leave that for a later time, when all get validated. P.S.: This is my 100th post [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 16, 2010 2:42:25 AM] |

Only now it came to me what c4cw secretly stands for whilst trying to write it down in German... the first real bourgeois project for connoisseurs: Computing 4 Classic Wines. It's cheaper in the 5 liter bottle than Perrier, here at least :P

Unfortunately quite a lot of my Betas ended up in a queue behind other tasks (DDDT2 & HCC mostly), so not as many quick returns from me. Bumping them up the list now. It always annoys me to find many tasks all partially completed; about 15 tasks were over 90%, and another 10 over 70%. Oh well, just one day from being mellow.

Well, this batch of betas brought me up to 13 days 10 hours. So whenever the next betas are released, I should finally get a bronze. It is exciting to be part of getting a new project started. Can't wait to see what it really is.
----------------------------------------Huh, putting Sekerob's latest together with several earlier speculations: maybe it's about photosynthesis in grape plants that produce watery wine. |
