I have already reported it last week , so it is not exceptional, but I agree it is weird and might need some attention from the techs/scientists.

Interesting is the result numbering as going through this test. The first in the population grabbed was 000194450 and incrementing as new beta's were received the last just showing 013666164 suggesting there to be at least 13.6 million results to work through and the last of this trial run surely not gone out yet, that constitutes quite a few thousand of CPU years. Should be, else WCG would probably not have accepted :D

Definitely these beta's prefer again to run on Linux (32 and 64bit).

huh, what is your WTD setting? Mine checkpoint never more frequent than my client setting, 5 minutes minimum, default at least 60 seconds apart... hmmm unless the permission to write query has not been set in the science app and it writes whenever it wants to, which can be frequent for several sciences, particular during startup phase. The message log suggests it's not asking the core client. .... <snip> WTD is set to 150 seconds on the machine where this happened. I have seen other WUs occasionally checkpoint more frequently than the interval (say 1-2 minutes), but I had never seen a WU take checkpoints a only a few seconds apart. Since it was a beta, I checked for anything unusual. Normally, I would not. - D |

Has the app been optimized?
----------------------------------------It is much faster on Linux 32 bits. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Has the app been optimized? It is much faster on Linux 32 bits. Development of all sciences is as per uplinger initially on the Linux platform, logically because the original apps from the scientists are most likely also developed on a mainframe / *nix based system. Then when things are taken to windows, the ''Bill'' factor kicks in. We never/rarely hear about the Mac Intel or PPC performance... they are too *nix. It used to be that HCC ran much faster on Woz until the scientists took out those external loops which brought out the Linux power. I don't think Linux is very efficient at that. Looking forward to how CEP2 will perform on Woz.

Definitely these beta's prefer again to run on Linux (32 and 64bit). Don't know about that, but they are running on my Mac PPC, Windows x86, and Linux x86 hosts. |

Definitely these beta's prefer again to run on Linux (32 and 64bit). Yes, but as usual it gets less points. They seem to claim similar amounts(within 10%), but the mysterious point forces pull them apart. The Quad is Windows while the Hex is Linux. Edit: Of course it could be the AMD vs Intel. It seems like my 1055T gets no respect. Are there any more betas in this run? Got a couple this morning after the outage but haven't seen any in hours.
----------------------------------------FWIW my linux-within-windows [andLinux] caught a couple while crunching CEP2. So same hardware for windows / linux, adding a virtual layer to the latter, but the same pattern: faster wus, less points. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 16, 2010 2:56:19 AM] |
