Pierre No because WCG has no applications for smartphones at this time. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

When the project scientists decide to compile an app that is both ARM and Android compatible. As of right now, I have not read any real interest/push for the scientists to do so.

Just downloaded the BOINC client from Google Play, the one WGC recommends on there website and it seems to be working fine. I had downloaded a previous BOINC client, but I uninstalled because my phone took forever to charge, and it would randomly start crunching even when my phone was not plugged in. Interested to see how this one does.
Also, I started this thread a few years back when I had the original Droid by Motorola. At the time I understood that the current phones were not suitable for crunching, but looking at how fast the tech in the phones was advancing (and the start of the decline in PC sales) it only seemed logical that the processing power of smartphones in the future would rival the current PCs. It was interesting to see the comments that were posted, both in support and opposed to smartphones being used for crunching. Thanks to all for keeping this tread going until WCG backed a BOINC client. Even if this client is not the best available, its a start. |

Also of note...
My first computer that I used to run BOINC... Single core at 1.4 ghz (I think), 512mb ram, 40 gb hard drive That was a smoking laptop in 2002. My current smartphone... Quad core at 1.5 ghz, 2 gb ram, 16 gb hard drive. I know there are other factors besides the stats I listed that effect the speed of work units, like how much better video cards are at crunching than CPUs, but I don't wade into the technical stuff I don't understand. |
