Problem is in my opinion the vitriolic debates seem to force the good guys out of polotics. Our current congressman is running but to me it appears not to hard as many people want him to run but I think he is sick of it, For some reason conservatives just dont seem to have the fire that the progressives have until its almost to late--also not as devious. The RNC called me last night and I told them that I was done giving them money. My contributions are going to the Heritage Foundation as it seems that they actually do some good with it. We talked for about an hour as she finally gave up trying to get some money out of me, and she was fairly knowledgeable about politics. I told her that if I wanted to run for office, it wasn't possible as I don't have the millions of dollars it requires now. Also, I told her that I would never be able to run on the republican ticket as a Tea Party and an Oath-Taker member. I can't relate to the republicans anymore. My problem with both parties is that they are all professional politicians; the founding fathers never intended that, and look at what we have going on right now. Even though I think it will never happen, someone from the RNC is supposed to be contacting me about running for office. Is there snow in hell, yet?

For the record, the vast majority of Americans approve of Obama. He's polling at roughly 70% approval. It's gonna be a chilly November for McConnell and crew... I have to challenge that, Jonathan. The best I have seen is a split, and it's on CNN . A high approval rating, and voters intending to vote for him again are two very different things. I did see a poll last week that 70% of the people like him as a person. That 70% was a mix of voters and people that don't or can't vote, though. Is that the poll that you are referring too? I don't know him personally but perhaps I might like him, too. I would never vote for him, though. I am pretty sure that most of the people that took part in that poll don't know him personally, either. And if they don't or can't vote, what does that tell you? And what does it matter? [Edit] I just found this. On the fourth page, it asks the question that if Obama ran again do you think he would win: 44% said he would win, 54% said he would lose. That is the bottom line question, yet CNN embellished the rest of the survey with worthless questions and decided to call it a split. This is a good example of why the rest of the world thinks this country likes him as a president. Funny how the rest of the survey is missing. I have to wonder what the questions were...

Just a side note - If anyone finds my opinions out of place here, let me know.

I know a great deal about computers, cars, jet engines and politics (in that order) and if I see something posted that is not correct, I feel that someone should correct it. [Edit] As I was getting ready to get off of here, I noticed that esoteric17 is reading our posts. esoteric17 used to be a member of our team and his opinion would certainly be welcome by me, as well as his awesome crunching presence that he once contributed.

It's because conservatism is a dead philosophy. I used to be conservative, back in the day. But the ideas are clearly dead and disproven in the financial disasters of late. Young conservatives are embarassed of their party and are calling themselves independents these days to avoid the assumption they're anti-immigrant, theocratic, racists. Also, not sure the Civil Rights Act was a bad thing, in fact, I'm pretty sure it was a LANDMARK ACHIEVEMENT. Oh, and prayer in school is obviously unconstitutional and blatantly discriminatory towards atheists/skeptics/free thinkers/religious minorities. If conservatives weren't so myopic, they might notice that their own critique of how the government should stay out of our personal lives (a point we all happen to agree on) means that government shouldn't be promoting religion (thank god Dan Barker and the Freedom From Religion Foundation killed the national day of prayer), or defining marriage, or telling me who I should or shouldn't sleep with. Finally, I don't know what all this "women paid to have kids out of wedlock," nonsense is about, but it sounds to me like a pragmatic way of reducing the number of abortions - another key conservative issue. Otherwise, if you're not going to pay for women to have kids out of wedlock, what do you propose we do? Abort? Even as an atheist I would find that offensive... We'll see come November, won't we? I'm looking forward to four more years... |
