Let's get off politics. i fully agree ...residing in a country (and being happy with that) that most would identify as too liberal, i did not follow it anyway..... RT, if u are reading this, pls reconsider your retirement from MOT. If you dont want to come back, will you at least stay active on WCG ??... cheers, Gerard. Hey Coingames, have you ever heard of this University in the Netherlands?
University for Humanistics, Utrecht, the Netherlands Apparently a lot of American Humanists go there for their PhD work and I was curious if the institution was particularly prestigious (or if it is b.s.)... |

Everyone has a right to their own opinion. Everyone has a right to express that opinion wherever they choose. Nevertheless there are some unwritten guidelines that people follow:
----------------------------------------- You don’t loudly discuss gas mileage during the super bowl broadcast. - You don’t pause during intimate moments to answer an email, discuss the efficacy of dishwashing liquids or discuss particle physics. - You don’t discuss the oral hygiene of a traffic officer while he is telling you about the traffic infraction you just committed. In other words there are reasonableness boundaries that most folks observe. In thinking about this it occurs to me that the consequences of deviating from these unwritten guidelines in real life. Deviation will get you yelled at by your football buddies, your intimate moments substantially restricted or get you an additional traffic citation. In other words violation of the boundaries generally results in negative consequences. Somehow in this WCG-MOT community thread (and in many others in the online arena), those boundaries seem to have no meaning: you can say pretty much what you want without any consequences of significance; not even peer pressures. Here at the World Community Grid we all volunteered to help find cures for diseases and solutions to other humanitarian problems of worldwide import. We joined MOT, presumably for some comradeship in our joint goal, perhaps for assistance, advice etc. in furtherance of that goal. And, as is common in society, engage in some mostly meaningless banter and humor (e.g. DataMans hilarious story about his owl house). Unfortunately, what seems to happen here, as well as in some other forums, people want to drag in some foreign subject that has put a burr under their saddle even though it is as out-of-place as discussing jet skis in heritage society meetings. This applies to off-topic discussions even if they are inflammatory or subjects detrimental to the World Community Grid. Examples of this are politics and other distributed computing projects that give more points or whatever. Politics: As I indicated earlier, the US political situation is as volatile and contentious as it was just prior to WWII or the Civil war. It has put that proverbial burr under almost everyones saddle; including mine. I am sick of political phone calls, politics on the web, politics on the news, and politics on the street corners. In the MOT thread, I have tried to explain that there may be an appropriate place for political discussions but it simply is not a world community grid team forum. Politics have nothing to do why we are here. Political discussions here change no one’s mind and these arguments are just plain destructive to the basic premise of a “Team”. My comments/appeals/suggestions seem as water off a duck’s back; I suppose because there are no consequences. I am completely sick of politics and the devastation that is having on the future of my children and grandchildren and succeeding generations. I personally, with my own equipment, have contributed enough computing to accumulate over 50 million points at WCG under my various accounts and teams and intend to continue that contribution regarless of any team affiliation. I have many unpleasant things I must deal with. This Team thread is not one of them. |

I personally would like to see RT come back to MOT.. :) I recommend groveling at 5 minute intervals interspersed with random begging.
----------------------------------------I personally hate politics, and don't see any place for it here in this forum.. Now, occasionally I like to find out about other's lives, and sometimes that coincides with talks about religion, ethics, morals, and of course politics. The reason I chose to join MOT almost 2 years ago is the people. Keith and Dave being the main two reasons at first. After them, i've been priviledged to meet (albeit online) RT, marysduby, coingames, Jonathan, and the list goes on. We can all contribute, that's for sure. :) Please come back RT. I promise at least from my own personal views that I won't bring up politics! :) Dr. Mike.. ![]() |

There were just a few (very few) beta Dengue WUs released a day or two ago. There were some A WUs a couple (?) of weeks ago... or maybe that was a month ago. Very little else, but it's been projected (by people who know) that there could be some more in the next couple of weeks. Don't expect a lot.
Other projects in the works: - FLU2 - CEP2 Both should be starting some time this year, but don't believe it until you see it. - D (Steering well clear of politics and politicians) |

...I have many unpleasant things I must deal with. This Team thread is not one of them. RT -- I know that I am not alone with my hopes that you will be able to deal with them as a team member. Many of us have been together with you for nearly six years. We have had a lot of irritations over the years which you have survived. You will be sorely missed if you are unable to rise above this one. |

I would rather peruse an active forum with people engaging in dissent and exchanging ideas, than sitting in a dead forum with people being "respectful of boundaries". Apparently, this forum is no longer about the free exchange of ideas. It is supposed to be about WCG exclusively. Well, that sounds tedious.
I remember the hullabaloo not too long ago when GPU processing was a hot topic on the forum. When it was made clear that this team was not about GPU or other computing projects, DM and Blizzie left and I moved my GPU over to XtremeSystems. It sounds like someone has a very specific view of what this place is for: WCG only, no GPU-talk, no politics, no religion. That sounds like a place I have no interest in. |
