Opinion: This kind of discussion is not conducive to the recruitment of additional members or furtherance of WCG/MOT goals/objectives and certainly does not nurture our sense of community. I don’t know why you guys insist on defiling this apolitical community with politics. We get enough, indeed too much of it, elsewhere. ![]() Your right you can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink!! PS--I forgot to use spell check--- PPS.Often times i do have sharp opinions and usually try to moderate my words--I will not be PC probably to my detriment,so from time to time i will speak out---if anyone is offended please let me know--i don't hide my e-mail or profile as i have nothing to be ashamed of and if that isn't enough i will find another teamMy opinion is just that, it does not necessarily reflect the opinion of the management or anyone else. The LAST thing I would want is for anyone to leave the team!! |

Some wise words to keep in mind:
----------------------------------------"There ain't no such thing as a one-sided coin." "Don't go pointing a finger at someone unless you want three others pointed back at you." "No one ever conciously chooses to make a totally stupid decision." What I have tried to strive for the most here is to have us be a truely global team. As such, we will reflect the tremendous diversity that exists among our human family. Now the safe way would be to keep things in our thread here simple and innocuous. Safe is stale and boring. Safe isn't how you learn and grow. Safe leaves you looking back with regrets for what could have been. Disease doesn't play if safe so why should we? To succeed as a global team, we have to recognize our diversity and accept that. Even more so, we have to tolerate that which is in direct conflict with our own beliefs. Last I checked, there still hadn't been a human born who had all the answers, especially all the time. Disease is probably one of the most consistent supporters of equal opportunity in history. It will willingly infect anyone it can. It has no preferences other that its own survival. We have chosen to come together to do our part in the ongoing fight against disease. As much as we may disagree on other things, on this we are united. This thread is our thread and ought to reflect who we are as a team. For that to be possible, I believe we have to avoid limits on what we discuss. Yes, we have to do so within the limits that WCG has set in the form of the forum rules but those are mainly a reflection of common courtesy and common decency. Truth has an uncanny knack for being able to speak for itself. If it cannot survive without our promoting it, is really much of a truth to begin with? The strongest arguement I think we can give as to why someone ought to join us is by the example we set as a team. That we can have opposing views sets an example. That we can view such opposing views as completely wrong sets an example. That we can respect that which we so completely disagree with shows that we are deserving of being respected. We have a common enemy here and the rest is secondary to that. United, disease doesn't stand a chance against us and those who, though not part of us, are joined in our common cause. For me, this is what MyOnlineTeam is. This is what we are about. I know I can sound melodramatic, even trite. Frankly, at my age, I don't particularly care if I do. I am who I am. As idealistic as I may get about what we can be as a team, as much as I may strive to grow our team with that in mind, it is our true nature that comes forth here. Over the years, I've seen some rather nasty outright nuclear flamewars in the WCG forums. That's not unique either. Other projects have had the same sort of thing. I choose to believe that, on the whole, that's an unfortunate reality that has been handled here at WCG as well as such things can be. Being human, we will fail despite our greatest efforts. It is failure that we truly learn from, not success. Failure is nothing to be ashamed of. Iron ore doesn't make much of a weapon. Run it thru the fire though and the steel you end up with shows it's a different story. As anyone who has been around any length of time with MOT can tell you, our history is not idyllic. Our history reflects our humanity. For me, that we can still come together and accomplish all that we have speaks volumes about us. We are by no means the only team worth being a part of, but I think we set an example, warts and all, that is worth being proud of. Enough said for now though we all know I am not done. |

I think this is a great team because we can disagree so vociferously. I give Gerald and Chris credit for having the thick skins maturity bestows on one. And who knows, maybe some of the more politically-minded folks will want to join MOT...
PS: If we had European-style socialism, our power costs would be lower (and we would be paying their true costs) because European socialist countries have invested a lot of money in alternative energies sources, thereby reducing their dependence on foreign oil... |

I have to admit, as an Australian with next to no knowledge of the political situation in the US, I've always been under the impression you folks over there generally believe Obama has been the best thing for the country since, well, <insert something awesome from ages ago here>.. So glancing through the little debate was nice as it reminds me how much I've been blindfolded and manipulated by the media.
Politics is a world I personally try to avoid.. the problem with common sense, is that its not that common. I just sleep better at night hoping that they actually know what they're doing and I'm simply missing facts that complete the picture. Ignorance has its advantages.. Marc. |
