http://www.ustream.tv/theowlbox There are a bunch of people waiting for these Barn Owl eggs to hatch. This is very entertaining to watch. The nest box is above a school in San Marco Calf. Looks like at least one egg is starting to hatch! Way cool Brink!!! I went there just to see what was going on and ended up spending over an hour there. I even got to see McGee bring her a gopher and have his nightly "wham, bam, thank you ma'am" Maybe a hatchling tomorrow???![]() One egg has a hole in it and "max" is pipping when she gets off the eggs. Should not be too long now before max eats his way out of that shell. EDIT: To know what is going on, click on the chat room, not social stream. If it says your banned then make an account for ustream and log in at the top of the ustream page then find the owl stream. The chat room is where the mods are hanging out. Yes, the social chat is mostly spammers. I appears "Max" will be out of that egg today. One down and 4 to go. Large clutch and it will be intersting to see how many survive and whether the first born kill the last born. ![]() ![]() |

The second owlette was just born 30 minutes ago. The name is Pattison (for an elementary school). Max is doing fine too.

Molly is really busy chowing down herself as she feeds Max and Pattison. McGee (the male adult) is putting in his time as the hunter. He has brought in several rodents to feed them all. I love watching them. The third egg is due to hatch tomorrow, the 25th.

This morning the owl box had a live video conference with the kids at Pattison Elementary School in Ohio. I was impressed. The kids were poised, polite, professional and asked very good questions. It almost gives me hope for the next generation.
---------------------------------------- Meanwhile, Molly and the owlets have become super stars and have been picked up by news feeds worldwide. The site now has over 2 million individual viewers and the site has 15-19K viewers in the evening. McGee deserves some credit too. He has become a killing machine. When the second owlet was born, he switched from mice/rat and voles to pocket gopher and rabbit. Last night he brought in a BIG fat rabitt. It is amazing that a 1lb owl can fly carrying a 3 lb rabbit. http://www.ustream.tv/theowlbox ![]() EDIT: I have fat fingers this morning. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Mar 24, 2010 4:59:31 PM] |

At my office we had 7 Bald eagles flying around in a group not to far up in the sky.
----------------------------------------6 were juveniles and one adult. The adult and one of the juveniles locked talons once like they were in courtship mode. Very impressed the amount of Bald Eagles in a populated suburb. EDIT: I'm going to get in trouble if I keep watching Molly, McGee and owlets at work. DOH! Owlet #3 was just born at 3:11 PST and was named Austin (after Carlos's grandson who set up the website). The City of San Marcos proclaimed today as Molly and McGee day.
