Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

One day we'll have a Duration Correction Factor per science rather than one at the WCG level.

Ah, I'd missed that little gem, thank-you. However, with this project the different types of unit run for such vastly different durations that using the project name as a key wouldn't really help much, would it?

Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

All my betas run without error.

The S* types and pc types completes in less than an hour which could add more load to the server.

eg i7 machine running 24/7 running these types for 40 mins:
1440 (mins in a day)/ 40 = 36 x 8 (cores) = 288 x 2 (send and recieve) = 576 transactions (if send results immediately is turned on.)

Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

Validation of these WUs seems to be a bit slow. [Resolved]
I ran 12 of them, and all are still Pending Validation, with at least 1 other wingman's WU having the same status.
In 1 case, the other 2 wingmen's WUs have validated, but my WU was returned last, and has not yet joined the happy trio.
I clicked "Try validation" on all 12, but so far no changes. [All now Valid]

The completion times were much shorter than the estimates, as others have noted.
From wetware memory, runtime memory usage was about 33MB, and virtual mem usage was about 520MB each. (Windows 2000, XP-32, XP-64). Low number of page faults.

[Sorry, Uplinger. Your post re validator off was in one of the few posts here that I missed].

BETA_erlc_a220_ps0000_2
2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 GB RAM
Mac OS 10.5.8
BOINC 6.6.36

It's hung at 23.440% with (currently) 66:39:12 elapsed. And with every second of elapsed "To completion" goes up a second (currently at 104:35:00).

I suspect I'll find similar issues with 4 other "In Progress" betas in two of my other labs. Dunno if posting similar issues will do anyone any good.

I've had two "Server Aborted" results out of some 90 betas, and these appear to be the first problematic ones.

Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

Hi,

thanks for reporting in. Propose

- to suspend the long hanging job BETA_erlc_a085_ps0000_2 and let other jobs run. The tech will check in to give advise what next. Don't abort please.

- Server Aborted is normal when the quorum 2 has validated. Then the 3rd copy becomes redundant. Because the validator is suspended, the 3rd copy is allowed to process during the weekend. They'll be examined on Monday when the tech returns to the office (or maybe he's operating from a tablet PC in the mentioned Ferrari outside an Internet Cave in Hawaii... Five-O)

Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

Suspend it is on these and the rest if they follow the pattern. I just checked the other lab and it's pretty much the same with 3 of the other 4--hung @22% and elapsed time growing ever larger.

Just think now that turn off the validator during Beta tests like that, probably will provide for WCG tech team a significant additional amount of information about tested Beta WU's.

Is my assumption valid ?

If yes, it could became a kind of regular pratice for future Betas.

Re: BETA for type C in DDD2

GIBA, it will give our validator a better test as instead of only comparing against 2 results, 3 will need to be compared. But this probably won't be come regular practice as it is good to have the validator run on the fly.

...as opposed to, let's really test these WU's under as many different circumstances as possible...
True, but that is contradicting your previous statement about WCG wasting members' CPU time by allowing the third copy to run for nothing. smile
Who can say that a third copy cannot fail even if the first two have been OK?
