Including our lovely warm July the 12 month running average is 0.29C below the 1961-90 average temperature for Central England

2/3rd's of the last year we have experienced below average temperatures

The world’s croplands could feed 4 billion more people than they do now just by shifting from producing animal feed and biofuels to producing exclusively food for human consumption, according to new research from the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota.

"We essentially have uncovered an astoundingly abundant supply of food for a hungry world, hidden in plain sight in the farmlands we already cultivate," says graduate research assistant Emily Cassidy, lead author of the paper published in Environmental Research Letters. "Depending on the extent to which farmers and consumers are willing to change current practices, existing croplands could feed millions or even billions more people."

..and why are we using arable land to produce Biofuels?

What would be the driver behind that ?

In the U.S., the driver is the agricultural lobby from the corn producing states. They are not in favor of paying taxes to support government programs, and for the most part don't even believe in Global Warming.

But they do believe in taking government money whenever possible.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Hi Jim

It's an absolute scandal that 6% of the arable land in the USA is used to produce fuel and not food, when we have easily accessible alternatives for fuel. This is having a Global effect.

Same with the support of Nuclear Power when there are so many alternatives. Nuclear Power's failures are having a Global effect.

We don't need to do either. The only way they can be justified is by the CO2 claim and the continued claim that the Globe is warming as a result.

It's not

So there's no justification for either. They have no raison d'être

-

NOAA seems to be having a technical problem with the USA's weather stats availability - hopefully I won't have to do too much interpolation sad Let's hope normal service resumes soon.
