Gerald it's all that residual heat from Summer in the Earths surface (Rocks and Oceans) that takes time to escape while the heat input balance goes negative. Even with more Sunlight from here on into Summer over the next couple of Months that balance is still negative and then the Rocks and Oceans take some serious warming back up again - the built in lag.
----------------------------------------It means for the last couple of years that minimum temperature (for the Northern Hemisphere) occurs around the 11th February. I have no reason to suspect 2013 will be any different The truly over hyped Mayan Apocalypse hasn't materialised....sound familiar? ![]() Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 21, 2012 11:43:35 PM] |

This years weather station cull
----------------------------------------For various reasons, some political, weather stations pack up and cease reporting their weather info.If these dodgy or defunct stations remain in the raw data then comparisons across the years cannot be made. We need to compare apples with apples otherwise any trend claim would be worthless. So each year around this time I do an audit of each station monitored This year the following weather stations have to be removed CWGL,CWVV,CWVU,ESNY,KBBF,KBID,KMRF,KMRN,KNFE,KOCW,LFSN,LFSR,OSAP,EGXT,KADH,KAEJ,KGBK,KIPN,KUCP,LFQI, LLOV,OAFZ You can see the weather stations data here at NOAA by going to http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/XXXX.html and replacing the XXXX with the 4 letter code above. (for the stations beginning K in the USA you need to visit http://w1.weather.gov/obhistory/XXXX.html and use the same trick) The most poignant being http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/OSAP.html (it would appear to be OK what is happening in Syria as the World deals out selective salvation ) By way of an example of a station that has stopped reporting http://www.theglobalthermometer.com/igraphs/stations/cwgl.png Some you will see have stopped reporting altogether others you may see reporting today. The ones still reporting will have had a significant outage during 2012 that effectively invalidates any comparison year on year We are down now to 2542 weather stations reliably reporting 24/7 across 140 Countries I will remove the Stations above from the 2011/12 data and reprocess the whole record in that what do I do with myself bit between Christmas and New Year. It's a labour of love to get to the truth. Dave ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 24, 2012 9:42:11 AM] |

2012 The year of the Drought
----------------------------------------http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-new...ar-of-floods-8431832.html Thank goodness we made it to Christmas and now that much needed H20 will begin to fall from the sky again. (back in April 2012 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-17690389) It's Global Warming that caused the Drought and it's Global Warming that caused the Floods. The EPA, having their cake and eating it since Gore's Oscar winning "Convenient Tax Gathering Ruse" The weather always repays its debt (at the moment with Interest) Dave ![]() |

The December 2012 result is in and the average temperature from 2564 (now 2542) NOAA Weather Stations around the Globe was 4.11C

I'm working through the annual audit at the moment so that we keep comparing apples with apples. If my daily crunching stats are down its because my main cruncher is thinking through weather data instead. It's currently wearing out a real nice velocirapter hard drive as I type. Makes me appreciate all the more what Kevin and Crew provide for us and the Scientists as the WCG. By the way MySQL is rubbish at "likes" on indexed Date and Times (I feel better now I've shared I'm going to reformat all my dates to YYYY-MM-DD HH so I can use = instead)That's now 2 full years of weather data captured around the Globe Which just leaves me to say... Welcome to 2013 Let's see if we can make it a great year .Dave ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Jan 1, 2013 8:20:33 AM] |

![]() Have you seen the direction of the current trend with the annual mean temperature of central England? The Red line... It's not upwards anymore now is it? Heading back to normal? Last years "anomaly" 0.20C Definitely not trending towards an "alarming" 6C increase by 2100 on account of the atmosphere now containing 0.039281% Carbon Dioxide and alarmingly increasing by 0.0002% each year Yours Telling it like it is (Calling a spade a spade ...and not a shovel)Dave ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by David Autumns at Jan 3, 2013 10:44:13 PM] |

Our Met Office gilding the lily
----------------------------------------http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/news/releases/archive/2013/2012-weather-statistics Remember last year in the UK started with a "drought" All over our press the cause of our V rainy 2012 (after the dry start) is "Global Warming" e.g. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/977...ct-more-extreme-rain.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20898729 http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2013/jan/03/2012-uk-second-wettest-year http://www.getreading.co.uk/news/s/2126528_20...ondwettest_year_on_record If the increase in rainfall is caused by Global Warming pray tell what caused this ? http://www.defra.gov.uk/environment/quality/water/resources/drought/ -- Ever thought it might just be natural variations in our weather which is by its very nature chaotic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaos_theory) As someone who isn't getting any younger, in my experience, we have about 18 months of rain following some numpty's declaration of drought in the UK - so it might brighten up towards the back end of this year Here's hoping Here's a handy graphic collection showing how the rainfall has varied over the UK since 1910 http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/977...very-year-since-1910.html Kind of Wet Wet Dry Dry Wet Dry Wet Dry Wet Dry Wet Wet Dry and so on and on and on and so on ![]() ![]() |
