Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

DM, yes, I did have that permanent Disneyland feeling when I was across in the USA for the better part of a single year, so maybe the full correction of the sentence [don't you dislike those half done jobs], was "This *is* my sur-reality" ;P

Read yesterday, the Chinese are going to remove 700 hills, just to build a new satellite city, and they're doing this in a region where water is already a seriously scarce commodity. Probably, they'll dig a new channel for that to overcome the problem back to the Yangtze. Given the isostatic instability of that geological zone, they could be in the news at some point in the future, for less fortunate reasons. Greenland is coming up by about 2cm/annual due to the melt-off ... what to expect if the pressure of 500-1000 cubic kilometers of ice is coming off each year. Something is going to give.

rapidly approaching 6 months consistently within a temperature band of 0.08C

That's reality (from 2565 NOAA Weather Stations updated hourly - annual audit imminent smile)

But please do fearmonger away. The more left field the better.

Context

Source data - so you can reproduce the same verifiable results - http://www.theglobalthermometer.com/metar.cfm

Straight averages, straight from the weather station data provided by NOAA, no additional adjustment required, updated hourly around the clock, coded and bought and paid for by yours truly, out of my wages as a Telecoms Engineer.

Expanded it looks like this http://www.theglobalthermometer.com/averagehourlytemp3.png

Enjoy smile

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

They are off to Warsaw for 2013's shindig Number 19 next November 11th - 22nd with the obligatory dramatic overrun complete with group hugs (with activist NGO's and figurehead World Leaders) to decide all of our futures.

They have asked for volunteers to host from Latin America and the Caribbean States for Shindig 20 as you are never going to get a good sun tan in Warsaw in November

Here's what has been agreed to this time around.

Decides that each Party included in Annex I will revisit its quantified emission
limitation and reduction commitment for the second commitment period at the latest by
2014. In order to increase the ambition of its commitment, such Party may decrease the
percentage inscribed in the third column of Annex B of its quantified emission limitation
and reduction commitment, in line with an aggregate reduction of greenhouse gas
emissions not controlled by the Montreal Protocol by Parties included in Annex I of at least
25 to 40 per cent below 1990 levels by 2020;

The EU has in Column 3 the value of 80%. The decision above allows the likes of Borroso (in fact commits them) to reduce that percentage

More people in the EU are going to freeze to death going forward

The decision on Kyoto that was due to expire at the end of the year

Adopts, in accordance with Articles 20 and 21 of the Kyoto Protocol, the amendment
set out in annex I to this decision;
2. Requests the secretariat to communicate the adopted amendment to the Depositary
for circulation to all Parties for acceptance, in accordance with Articles 20 and 21 of the
Kyoto Protocol;
3. Calls on all Parties to deposit as soon as possible with the Depositary their
instruments of acceptance in respect of the amendment pursuant to Article 20 of the Kyoto
Protocol with a view to expedite its entry into force;
4. Reaffirms that the second commitment period will begin on 1 January 2013 and
decides that it will end on 31 December 2020;

There you go that was COP18

I hope Al Gore sleeps well tonight

Ann Robinson, of uSwitch.com, said: 'Affordability is becoming a huge and growing concern. The days of cheap energy are over.'

The average household energy bill has risen £94 or 7 per cent this year and £251 or 23 per cent since January 2011. In 2004, the typical bill was £522 a year, which means customers have seen a rise of £830 or 159 per cent in less than a decade.

The Office for Budget Responsibility, which publishes official forecasts for the Treasury, is predicting another 5 per cent rise in energy bills next year.

It said it expected suppliers to respond to higher oil and wholesale gas prices as well as increased costs associated with the Government's green agenda.

....and yet

The days of cheaper energy are there before us

http://ibis.grdl.noaa.gov/SAT/SeaLevelRise/do...se_Budget_Report_2012.pdf

88 years left in this Century even taking the worst case scenario Sea Level rise by 2100 = 11.44cm

Stretch your thumb and forefinger apart with the end segment of your thumb and forefinger parallel to each other

About that much .....over the next 88 years

Unless of course the Sun continues to trend less active and the Sea contracts again

Terrifying ..... Not biggrin

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

A year ago I wrote to my local MP...

How about adopting Government policies to reduce the initial cost of power by producing it in the most cost effective manner?

Currently this must be by harvesting the Gas under Morecambe bay and building new Gas Fired Power Stations

Instead of loading the market with New Nuclear Build, and forking out for feed in tariffs for Wind and Solar Power adding Climate Change Levies, and turning off perfectly viable, fully paid for powerstations under the LCPD and adding additional cost to new plants through CCS requirements. Then add the ETS costs (And then add 5% VAT to the pile)

How about we get back to providing the customer with the cheapest power that we can generate so that the benefits we have seen in Society since The Enlightenment....can continue.

Yours Sincerely

David Autumns

To which he wrote back

Thank you David –

You would probably be right if you took the view that burning carbon doesn’t matter at all but successive governments have (I believe rightly) taken a different view.

The only trouble was the advance planning wasn’t great so a lot has to be done quite fast.

With regards
Richard

I wasn't best impressed

A year later his Government does this

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20707574

I wrote back

Thank you :-)

Common sense prevails today.

Regards

Dave

His message

Agreed!

If a week is a long time in Politics it's amazing what difference a year makes smile
