Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Absolute classic piece by Mr Delingpole of the Telegraph

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdeling...ue-go-green-ruin-britain/

In an homage to Winston Churchill

"Never before in history, I doubt, has so much money ever been squandered, so much suffering and poverty exacerbated, so much economic damage been inflicted, so many lies promulgated and so much environmental destruction wrought in order to deal with a problem so microscopically miniscule."

The tide is turning

Watching of the next video presentation is not without hazard. Don blinkers and ear mufflers and *please*, do not ask yourself any uncomfortable questions:

A link between climate change and Joplin tornadoes? Never!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhCY-3XnqS0

PS, Pine Island Glazier is loosing up to 16 meters off the top per year. Pine Island glazier's surface is 175,000 square kilometers. How many cubic kilometers of ice melt would that equate to?

PPS, would all that land based ice melting and run-off cause enough weight shifting in the tectonic plates to cause earthquakes?

Quoting meself, the dailykos has the original story which the video was closely follows.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2011/05/24/9788...s:-Keep-Calm-and-Carry-On

Beaufort Sea Ice Thickness:

2009 - 170 centimeters
2010 - 160 centimeters
2011 - 140 centimeters.

Yes, it is global cooling at it's finest. All that record snow though indicates there's lots more vapor to go around and for vapor one needs?... [10 points for the correct answer]

boy, I'm fast... 35 seconds of another day in my live.

Sea level change due to ocean warming in the top 700m

20 mm in 56 years

note flat since 2003

Ocean heat content in the top 700m

note flat since 2003

Sek would you like to dispute?

I have this now (see link below) as my wallpaper. It will make it feel warm and toasty on a cold and dark winters night just by looking at it on my 23"environmentally friendly Samsung XL2370 monitor

It's a little aide-mémoire that the Sun is anything but constant

From the WikiLeaks one could derive that concern for planet is just a forked tongued message

Wikileaks cables show race to carve up Arctic

Those fossil fuels are mine, mine, mine! Certainly, who cares about that global wellbeing themometer up top of the Earth's axis.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Did we hear that old sun being conjured up again? Light/Rays from the sun takes about 8 minutes to reach us, and solar winds and other phenomena several days. Never the smallest of plausible explanation why for instance the sun has been slowing for the past 60 years, yet World Wide the ice is melting everywhere on an accelerated bases, sea based, land based and EVE has in fact indicated that the Extreme Ultraviolet component has declined by 6% over the past 12 years... Ultraviolet being the portion that can penetrate water up to some 200 meters. [And used to be largely kept out by a ''healthy'' Ozone layer up in the atmosphere, which humans helped destroy substantially]

EVE: Measuring the Sun's Hidden Variability

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/sdo/news/sdo_eve.html
...The answer seems to be dimmer. Measurements by a variety of spacecraft indicate a 12-year lessening of the sun's "irradiance" by about 0.02% at visible wavelengths and 6% at EUV wavelengths. These results, which compare the solar minimum of 2008-09 to the previous minimum of 1996, are still very preliminary. EVE will improve confidence in the trend by pinning down the EUV spectrum with unprecedented accuracy.

Of course if we total the sum of the energy from the ol sun, we've known for longer that the Total Solar Irradiance [TSI] has been varying about 1.2 watts/Meter square from peak to bottom in the cycle. 1.2 Watts on 1366 Watts it outputs per square meter [the flat line up top in chart below]. That's just about enough to let a LED light up... sure enough 510 thousand billion LEDs, but still 1 LED per square meter. Could the energy that lights those LEDs warm the planet by any noticeable margin, and not escape to space before it gets a chance? Of course if you take a scope, Electrical Engineers know how to work them, and knob it to 250 multiplication, one get the green wiggle below, which shows that solar reduction since the fifties, kind of synchronous to the sunspots humans have been counting for centuries, more accurate today than say, 60-100 years and before... but we have 10Be deposits in the Earth's surface as X-reference, when the sun was more or less active, quite accurately in fact, as do to tree rings and many other lines of evidence.

One wonders what's up next as an excuse [same old same old] why we should not have to worry about what humans are doing in the present [Anthropocene], the Era of Human Caused Globe Changing Effects, and not for the better.

--//--

PS: Let's not forget to regurgitate what has all been said before in this and the disappeared thread... about zero zilch new under... the sun! All the Ain't True has been debunked countless times. The Earth circles the Sun. Hypatia [of Alexandria] found that 1200 years before Galileo, but she too died by the hands of those who found that to be an Inconvenient Truth. All that science, and here we are in 2011 and some factions pushing very hard to "defund" research and environmental pollution control [what about those continental sized plastic floats in the Oceans?]. These persons can be real proud of themselves, yes they can! Recently 2 brothers tried to buy themselves into a University faculty [FSU] by ''donating'' 1.5/1.6 million USD. The university wisely refused to accept and sacrifice their academic independence. Some other Unis had no trouble so it says there, and it's printed on the internet :P

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Just checked out the window and there's gallons (imp) of drought raining down from the sky laughing

Rain/Snow distribution and acuteness has changed and it will change further. The scientists and climatologists have been warning for it for years. Those in North/East USA and West Australia will really appreciate the good laugh. Humor is a good way to survive, meantime a few in Scotland will be interested in this: http://www.iwaponline.com/nh/028/0037/0280037.pdf

Conclusions
It has been shown that river flows in the Clyde Catchment have increased at nearly
twice the rate of increase in rainfall in the past 30 years. The more than proportionate
increase in runoff is largely due to the significant increase in winter rainfall over
this period and perhaps also to changes in the pattern of rainfall, in that periods of
rain have become more concentrated.
Global climate predictions indicate these trends are likely to continue for several
decades with obvious implications for flooding risk as well as water supply.
It is considered that catchment change in terms of vegetation demand and urban
land use are unlikely to have a significant effect.

Continue to enjoy your fun.

Re: Not sure how much longer they will be able to keep crunching in the UK

Sek you can print and claim as much as you like but like everything under the Sun it's meaningless

as the rain follows the drought and the spring follows the winter that is just the way it is

You can print your fearmongering nonsense about climate change in Scotland and every Scot would laugh you out of the room

This is why in Scotland they have the word dreich

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dreich
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Dreich+(Old+Scots+origin)

Only in Scotland which is a glorious place that I have spent too little time in
