It is colorful but how many colors could they add? Maybe something like sapphire with diamond cluster? Actually, aside from FAAH and HPF2, how many projects ever last two years? It's got to be a bit tough for ordinary users to get to sapphire on something.i like the diamond cluster idea maybe they should start doing it like we did in the air force, add a little cluster mark for each new level, then we could get the sapphire with the diamond cluster and the matching ear rings ![]() Well, we'll see what the reaction is like. I've posted the idea over in Suggestions/Feedback. |

Apart from the tongue-in-cheek part, ( I don't look good in earrings) I think this would be a good idea. You could have a diamond in the top left of the square for 5 years, + one in top right for 10 years, one in the bottom left for 15 years and one in the bottom right for 20 years. I'm sure we'll all take your word on the ear ring thing i don't really have much to say, but i decided that if something is important to you, you should put your time into it. since what we do together is important to me, i decided to start posting more. I've been on board since day one (not with MOT for the first six months) and my post count hasn't hit 100 yet. i will change that before the week is out. WOO HOOO!!! I certainly welcome the help here. It's hard enough given my dorky, socially inept nature. One good thing about getting old is I don't really care much at all about making a fool of myself. Well, that last part has to be a bit obvious to folks. Seriously, you certainly have my support. I don't doubt that you'll have plenty to contribute here just like you do with your machines. |

I know this is a "newbie" kind of question but I have not kept up at all with BOINC. There is a new version (6.6.38) available for download from Berkley that is a 64bit implementation.
----------------------------------------I know it did not used to make a difference in running WCG-only WUs if you used BOINC from WCG or BOINC from Berkley. Now: 1) Is it true that I can run this version from Berkley (6.6.38-64bit) without any deleterious effects on the projects, MOT, WCG, RT or points? 2) If the answer is that I can, why does WCG have its own "branded" version? (What do they change apart from the icon)? The reason I ask is that in theory the 64bit version over there will let you run HPF2 successfully on Vista64 and Win7 64 on the I7s or even the Core2 quads and I thought I might give it a try (if it does not interfere) This from the HPF2 Forum. Anyone know for sure? If not, anyone have a good guess? Edit >clarification ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by RT at Oct 8, 2009 6:38:57 AM] |

RT, I've been running 6.6.36 for quite a while. I've always gotten my BOINC updates directly from Berkeley. No problems. As for why WCG has its own "store brand", as far as I can tell, so they can have their custom "skin" and can point to a given level and say they've tested their projects under that level of BOINC without problems. For folks that crunch only WCG and are not technical, dealing with just WCG simplifies things.

likewise, i have been running all my updates from berkeley for a year or more with no problems. i have xp 32 bit and 64 bit plus vista 32 bit and 64 bit on different machines and i don't see any ill effects. i did try to run on a couple of macs i have, but the processors got so hot i was afraid they would melt the cases. i don't want to start any mac/pc debates, just commenting on my experience.

OK ... Well I just downloaded and installed what I think is the latest version from Berkley (6.6.38-64bit). I installed it on this Vista Ultimate 64 bit machine (Core2 Quad 9450) and we will see what happens with the HPFII problem that I have running on it ... along with 3 Rice WUs. I downloaded 22 HPFII WUs as a test.. we will see.
