Chris, There have been a swarm of quakes out there. Everyone OK?
----------------------------------------As a corollary to the pictures of the distorted water bottle at Bad Water in Death Valley, I have another photo that might be interesting: http://www.windmillweb.com/UpToCraterLakeandCL18.jpg My wife likes to feed the sea gulls (I know....I told her....but ...). Anyway we were coming south along the Oregon coast enjoying every minute of it. She feeding those enormous gulls and me tying to prove that I can take even more photos on each succeeding vacation, and we turned east to head up to Crater Lake. Now having forgotten all about the Cheetos we had purchased for the gulls along the coast we noticed a popping sound coming from the back floorboard of the car as we drove up to Crater Lake. At our first stop when driving around the lake I investigated and found the two bags of Cheetos, which must have been packed and sealed near sea level were blown up to just about bursting pressure. The photo does not do justice to the beautiful lake nor the pressure inside those two bags. I know everyone is just riveted by this drama but .... I thought it might be interesting. By the way, In northern California, I had a grilled Chicken at a brewpub that I would swear was really one of those huge gulls. ![]() |

By the way, In northern California, I had a grilled Chicken at a brewpub that I would swear was really one of those huge gulls. ![]() Add more fires to that too. The Sheep fire may get some smoke up Chris' way if the winds blow to the north. It's a bit south of Edwards down towards the mountains above the LA basin. As for Crater Lake, you really have to see it to grasp the size of the place and how deep blue the water is. One of a kind sight. Chris mentioned snow not long ago. The first time I was out that way back around '90, I watched it snow while driving through the Mojave - in March. Snow is easy to understand when you know the conditions are right. Still, it really messes with your mind to see it falling - and sticking no less - in a desert! Seeing snow in the Grand Canyon on the same trip was neat too but not the same. I am going to have to find a way to the New England part of the country one of these years. That's the one part of the country I haven't been to much of. I've been to all the states except Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Ohio, North Dakota and Nebraska (still got four continents to get to as well). |
