Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Hi all -- hope everyone's still doing OK.

My PC has been having issues - it is 11 years old. Earlier this year, my video card went out (not doing GPU though). The fan locked up in it. A friend of mine who lives up the street, who is a coder and a gamer, gave me a GEForce video card from 2016 which didn't meet his gaming requirements, and that fixed the problem.

Now I'm having problems with Windows Updates. Some updates install OK, but updates like KB5003173 don't. The PC doesn't shut down -- just have a gray screen with the white balls spinning around. Have to hold down the start button on my PC to shut it down -- then when I start it up, Microsoft undoes its damage. Did a search on the web and others are having this issue. And everyone's worried about ransomware. I think Microsoft is a lot worse tired

This is strictly my own opinion so govern accordingly. 99+% of windows updates are for enterprise/work computers tied to a network and are of very little use or benefit for the everyday home user. I shut off auto updates after XP SP4 and have never had any issue since with any flavor of windows. I use the built in back feature to back up drives every month to and external drive just in case something should happen like a failed HD, which has happened. The headaches caused by auto updates just isn't worth it to me. JMHO

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Well I hope everyone's having a nice summer. We sure are. Friday a week ago, we just got back from vacation at Glacier National Park, MT. The trip was pretty much a spur of the moment thing. Shin (my wife) wanted us to visit there this year. But when I checked things out, I found that you needed a $2.00 pass to access the main entrances and road (Going-to-the-Sun Road). The purpose of the passes are to make the traffic level manageable. But when I checked, all the passes were sold out for the entire summer. However, I found out that for each day, they withheld 25% of the passes, and released those at 8AM (the passes are good for 7 days). So every morning, I'd log on at 8AM and try to get a pass. And every time I'd try to log on, it would kick me out (too many people logging in) and tell me to log in again. At 8 AM, they had about 275 passes, and by 8:04, they were sold out!!! So Friday two weeks ago, I logged on and on my second try, I got in and got our pass. Made hotel reservations, and we left the next day. We had a wonderful time -- very scenic.

I'm glad you got in! I've only driven through parts of Montana. My dad was born there, though, so I've always wanted to go and visit places. Good to know about needing a pass!

Every summer since 2016 Jr. and I plan a ride on our motorcycles to somewhere we've never been. Last year Glacier, along with Yellowstone, was part of our 17 day 7k mile adventure. No $2.00 passes needed then. We stayed in BnBs, took tons of pics and had spectacular weather. Glacier was magnificent although the roads through the Indian nations were closed because of covid. Couldn't even just ride through. Stayed in a cabin on an Idaho lake for Yellowstone. Saw old faithful, had roads blocked by buffalo and saw moose crossing the Yellowstone River. Took in Mt. Rushmore and Devils tower on the way home. Unfortunately my wife has been having complex medical issues since May and we had to cancel our trip for this year.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Hello!! I am back =D

I just downloaded the client. I had to get a new laptop. I must say I am about to faint-Look at my stats:

9/13/2021 8:09:05 PM | | Benchmark results:
9/13/2021 8:09:05 PM | | Number of CPUs: 12
9/13/2021 8:09:05 PM | | 3898 floating point MIPS (Whetstone) per CPU
9/13/2021 8:09:05 PM | | 11447 integer MIPS (Dhrystone) per CPU

I had NO IDEA I have 12 cores!!! lololol I bought a gaming laptop: ROG.

9/13/2021 8:08:25 PM | | CUDA: NVIDIA GPU 0: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (driver version 471.11, CUDA version 11.4, compute capability 7.5, 4096MB, 3465MB available, 7066 GFLOPS peak)
9/13/2021 8:08:25 PM | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super (driver version 471.11, device version OpenCL 3.0 CUDA, 8192MB, 3465MB available, 7066 GFLOPS peak)
9/13/2021 8:08:25 PM | | Processor: 12 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz [Family 6 Model 165 Stepping 2]

Like seriously hoping to really crunch to make up for the time I wasn't able to contribute. I think I allowed the GPU to crunch too....I had none before so I had the preference for zero.

Great to be back and such a new future unfolding for us at WCG!

Hugs to all!!!
