Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Does anyone have any tips for using a PC with one hand? I broke my left hand on Weds., and it's now in a cast. Hard to do things requiring pressing 2 or 3 keys at the same time. Also having difficulty tying my shoes, flossing, etc.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

As Ecclesiastes says, to everything there is a season. I have now shut down everything except the 1 quad core Pine 64 device that is still chugging along. When that dies then my contributions here at WCG will become part of history. I hope my 475 years of run time and over 3.6 million results returned over the last 14 years have helped mankind defeat some of the awful diseases we are faced with. Maybe someday we'll find a cure for the parkinsons disease that is slowly stripping away my wife's quality of life. Be well and God bless to all of my teamies.

I hate to hear your shutting down but I can’t say I haven’t been debating it WCG myself (disappointed with transition). Thanks for all your help brother! Prayers for you and especially your wife as you walk through Parkinson's. I pray He is with you, comforts and guides you; as well as gives you the strength you need to help her.

Thanks for your contributions, nanoprobe. I've scaled back quite a bit too. My main computer no longer does any grid computing. I've got a couple of orphans that are still crunching away. I don't know how much longer they'll go on.
Electricity cost has dramatically gone up here so I can't really justify the cost anymore.

Same her with the electricity. The 1 remaining Pine 64 only draws 6 watts.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

For the meantime (when WUs become available again), I'll continue crunching. My 11-year old Dell XPS workhorse PC has been the main cruncher. It's been reliable (rap on wood) and fairly speedy. Since last July, I've been having issues with Windows updates, but Microsoft finally fixed that problem with the 21H1 update (I think what fixed it, is that they sent all the appropriate files with that update). I'm not sure how long PCs last, but I'll let this run as long as it lasts. I was surprised that the HD lasted over 9 years continuous duty (I finally replaced it, because they don't last forever).

In the meantime, I think I'll contact Dell and see if they can figure out why my new XPS PC that I bought at Costco on Black Friday overheats.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

I'm running mostly a small squadron of Androids, good portion of them retired from service.

Just lost 2.

1 is a Moto that keeps rebooting around the time of the Moto splash animation. Tried resetting it to no avail. Pain to get into safe mode. Gonna try and get back to safe mode and see if I reset from the GUI if that helps. Failing that, I was thinking of venturing into installing Lineage on it (courtesy of XDA developer instructions).

Other was a Fire HD8. It went white screen and nothing comes up after wife shut it down. Don't know if the whole tablet is shot or the screen died.

Universe@home grants 666.67 credit per WU, even for Android so even if it takes up to 24 hours on the old Droids, it's a fairly decent credit for Android work. Lately, they have been running faster. I don't know if there was a new app or a new set of WUs. Einsten@home is faster, but much lower credit.

Asteroids@home is looking to make a come-back soon. They got new hardware newer this month and are getting things set back up after a couple year hiatus or so (waiting for WCG doesn't seem so bad now ;) ).
