Hey Diana! It's good to see you back. It's been a very long time!
Looks like you have an awesome laptop. I like ROG. I bought my wife one.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Just a heads up to my team mates. I will be finishing up my time at WCG shortly. Life's changes are requiring me to cut down on expenses. I will be slowly shutting down machines and will probably be done by the end of the year. I may leave my 2 remaining android devices running until they die because they only draw 6 watts. Not sure about that yet. Whatever happens I will probably not be posting here any more.
Best wishes to everyone. God bless and keep up the good work.

Hi nanoprobe! That's understandable. I got your email too but wasn't sure who it was from...lol. Even though you probably won't see this message, thanks very much for your contributions to WCG and to the forum. One day I hope to get our private forum up and running again. I may set up a Discord or Guilded server, since those are much easier and better than an old traditional forum. Best wishes to you!

Nanoprobe: Sorry to see you go but you need to do as you see best. I am still using a couple of the hard drives you sent long ago. They haven't died yet. Best of luck in what you do.
Cheers

Thanks Sarge. To everything there is a season. I like to think my seasons here made a difference.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

OK Team. I've decided to try to buy a new PC around black Friday. I want a pretty beefy one, but I don't need any super-duper video cards. I don't plan on running any GPUs.

Any suggestions what I should look for? This Dell Studio XPS has been running 24/7 over 11 years. It still is pretty speedy, but sooner or later it'll go to PC heaven. This PC has a quad-core I7 and 12 GB of RAM. It's running Windows 10. A few years ago, I had to get the CPU cooling system replaced, because the screws broke holding everything on the heat sink and CPU. I have a newly designed cooler that really runs on the cold side. I'd like a desktop, with a fairly large (airy) case such as this one. And any idea of a good place to look for PCs?

BTW, the latest issue I had with this PC -- I spilled a whole cup of coffee on the keyboard. ๐Ÿ˜’ I broke down and bought a new wired Microsoft keyboard from Staples, that was on clearance for $6.00.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Well, I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year celebration. On Black Friday, I got a new Dell XPS PC from Costco (they were on sale). It has an I7 11700 (Rocket Lake) processor and 32 GB of RAM. It is really speedy -- completes Open Pandemic WUs in .88 hours, and African Climate in about 8 hours. Unfortunately, it overheats. The first thing I did was put a temp monitoring program on it. I can only run 1 WU at a time, and I have it to run at 70% of CPU time -- at 80 % -- that gets kind of iffy. I like to keep the core temps <75 degrees C. The problem seems to be that they have the same stupid stock cooler on the CPU that my old one had. I may take it down to the PC shop I took the old one, and have them install an updated cooling system.

Hi littlepaks! That looks like a nice computer. I would definitely say you should upgrade that cooler. The stock coolers are never good for grid computing. See if they can fit an AIO liquid cooling system. They are much more efficient AND quiet!

Happy New Year!
