Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

I'm still here. My main PC (W10, I7, 12 GB RAM), running continuously for over 11 years, seems to still be doing well (need to open the case and blow the dust out of it again). My new Dell "killer PC" is not doing well -- it overheats when doing anything difficult. I called Dell tech support, and after 1 1/2 hours of on-line troubleshooting, they had me ship it back, and installed a new fan and heat sink. It's no better. Thinking about taking it to the local computer shop, and have them see if there's room to install a water-cooled system, or something better.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Hello all! I just noticed that we're back online. I don't remember getting a notification. Maybe it went into spam.
I'll probably keep my main computer offline until summer is over. I may fire it up again in October.

littlepeaks, I like Dell but they don't put in good cooling systems. I have a relatively inexpensive Corsiar All-in-One liquid cooler that I installed in my new computer almost two years ago. It runs great and is very quiet. I'm sure a local computer shop will be able to do something similar. Even just replacing the stock cooler with a beefier one would help.

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Thanks USAFA 82. One thing I'm thinking about. When Dell Tech Support was running the self tests on my PC over the internet, one of the things they ran tests on was BIOS. During the BIOS test, one of the subtests ran the CPU fan at slow, medium, and high speeds. If that can do that why can't I?

BTW, when I installed Norton 360 on the new PC, it immediately asked me if I wanted to do Bit Mining on this PC. I looked into it, and it was for Etherium. Bit Mining used to be a worthwhile endeavor, buit now it seems to be a waste of time (and energy and money). And during the last two years when I filed my taxes, the tax preparer asked me if I held any cryptocurrency (guess the govt. is getting wise to that).

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

I see that we are back up. I am letting my main system run for now, but like USAFA 82, I may pull back until cooler weather depending upon electrical usage.

Just posting my annual check in. biggrin

Yes! just checking in also;
My three machines are running full speed ahead, and showing in the results page. Overview and History pages are still dead from February. Maybe will be updating soon.

For those of us who are frustrated with the stuck downloads: apply to command prompt one of the following:

for /l %q in (0) do "C:\Program Files\boinc\boinccmd" --network_available Loop

for /l %q in (0) do "C:\Program Files (x86)\boinc\boinccmd" --network_available Loop

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Howdy, all! I thought I'd check in and see how folks are doing. I hope it was a happy time for folks that celebrate Thanksgiving in the US. I decided to semi-retire from my IT business, so I'm hoping to enjoy the Christmas season for the first time in almost twenty years. I hope everyone has a Very Merry Christmas!

Holidays are much more enjoyable and less stressful in retirement!
Scrollsawing and piddling in my wood shop is what I do now, much better than driving tractor trailers and 'playing' in traffic!
Merry Christmas to all!

Re: Christians are giving......come give with us!

Back on-line for now.

Has anyone else received any "GPU" problem sets? I got some the other day and they solved incredibly fast compared to the CPU work units, on the order of 5 minutes verses 1.5 hours.

Hope all are doing well. Merry Christmas.
