Thanks for the advice!
---------------------------------------- I had already done so. (but accepting other projects when no WU's available) Which was/is the reason for the rice e.a. ![]() I'll continue to crunch happily away, but hope to make it to gold this way... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Aug 12, 2009 8:51:40 AM] |

I'm at 90-some days at CEP and trying to go for the red badge with just 3 cpu's... I'm starting to doubt if I can make it with the intermittent work!
---------------------------------------- Anyway, I'll give it a try!!! ![]() |

I'm going to make it well past Sapphire so I'm going to be aborting a couple hundred CEP WU's. So that should help some of you that are on the brink of getting the badges you're after.

BEFORE aborting, first pull work of your new target(s), else you might not get any!

BEFORE aborting, first pull work of your new target(s), else you might not get any! I'm not sure what you mean. As an example I've got a machine that has 30 pending tasks. I aborted 20 of them. So I've still got 10 in the queue on that machine. |

That scenario will work. Aborting work drops the reliability rating of a device very quickly down to 1 per day until valid work is returned again!

Gotcha. That makes sense. Thanks for the heads up. Don't want any of my machines sitting idle!

Well, I made it with just the 1 computer & 2 cores - so, as has already been suggested, simply focus all your computers attention onto CEP (i.e. forget Rice, just for the moment), and ensure that you have a decent buffer set (i.e., say, 5 days' worth), then if/when there's a temporary shortage of WU's, your computer can continue to crunch whilst the hopper is getting filled back up again Well, I was going to wait until I got my Ruby badge before mentioning my strategy to get there in the closing weeks of the project. However gb seems to have the same idea that I had & has spilled the beans .A few weeks ago I was sitting at 90+ days & decided to push for Ruby. Knowing that there was a reduced number of workunits to crunch being distributed I set my buffer to 4 days with CEP as the only project selected. Within a day or so the buffer was filled up & I was able to keep crunching through the couple of days where I didn't receive any work units (the buffer was usually filled up again the next day). My three dual core machines have managed to average about 5.5 CPU days per day. Based on that I had roughly 3+ weeks of crunching to get those 90 days. Somehow I managed to get all the calculations correct & today the final work units should be loading into the buffer to be crunched in the following few days . While I doubt if I'll want to make such a focused effort again any time soon, it is nice to know just what my machines can accomplish in a short time frame. And once the badge does change color I'll be leaving you fine people to fill out your badges with the remaining units. See you all in phase 2 . |

What is the current estimate of how much longer CEP will be sending out WU with the current pace of finished WU's runnig approximately 50% of previous average?
