It would be interesting to see what folks would do if WCG were to add GPU crunching. I'd get one of those blue bangles for beta. ![]() ![]() |

That point concerns me but I'd love to see it work out well. We may need to give them five or six months to get things stable and established. |

Interesting news from Aqua hot off the presses:
----------------------------------------2009-07-23: AQUA@home - AQUA@home's minimum CPU requirements AQUA's complex work units have meant extremely long running times, especially on slower systems. This has been a problem for volunteers as well as the project managers. We have been working intensely on improving the efficiency of our applications. One major achievement has been very high CPU utilization on multi-core computers. But this solution will not be of any use on single core CPUs. We appreciate all of our volunteers and their help, but sincerely believe that slower machines can be of much more benefit in BOINC projects with shorter running work units. For this reason AQUA will no longer send work units to single core CPUs. Hyper-threading CPUs are supported, though. Should we again release a CUDA version of our application, single core CPUs will be supported if the system has a CUDA card. Vectorization of our code also implies that SSE2 support is a requirement for running AQUA's applications. |

Here's an interesting post over on BOINCStats:
----------------------------------------http://boincstats.com/forum/forum_thread.php?id=3197#68452 We've been warned about DDDT already but CEP and Rice were a bit of a surprise. I have to wonder how good these ballparks are. |

I'll probably have questions later.. but glad to join.. :) Dr. Mike.. A good way to get relly hooked on it is to put in a little each month. Nothing that you'd really miss. When you start seeing repayments coming back to your account, you can turn around and lend that out again to someone else. You'll typically see repayments being added back to your account around the middle of each month. Kiva's grown to the point that they standardized processing cycles. Over time, you'll get to see the real multiplier effect of what you put in. Your money is pooled with others who pick the same borrower so 20 people put up $50 and the borrower gets the $1000 they need. I've been part of 60+ loans so far and have lent out my original money over three times. I've built up to where I now just re-lend the money out as it comes back in, doing 3-4 new loans each month. That's my kind of "recycling"! That is the way I have been getting involved with it as well. I've not been in as long as Keith, but I now have about $200 loaned out to people from Viet Nam, Cambodia, Azerbaijan, Peru, Ghana and Togo. |

Okay, I downloaded the driver for my version of OS (Windows Vista 64-bit).. Attaboy!! I downloaded the EVGA application.. Good. You'll need it. Question though.. I need to download Boinc 6.6.36.. do I run 2 separate instances of Boinc? Or just one? Just one. It will replace your current version. How do I join a team? When you join GPUGrid as a new user it will ask you if you want to join a team. Otherwise at any time from "My Account" you can click on "Join Team". BTW that team better be MyOnlineTeam. i've got lots of questions.. i know i'm a pain.. Not at all ... I got answers. also, the nvidia website link you sent me is different than the one I looked at earlier.. even mentioned something about installing 3 separate files? Unless you are a developer you just need the vid driver. The tool box and stuff is not necessary. i'm so confused.. Been there and done that when I started. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Dataman at Jul 24, 2009 3:49:54 AM] |

Okay, I ran Boinc 6.6.36.. (or some number close to that.. lol)
----------------------------------------I attached to both GPU and WCG.. right now it shows 50 percent resource share on each one.. I thought it would be that I would run wcg all of the time, and gpu in the background.. did I miss something? Also, what should I set the EVGA app. settings at? Mike... ![]() ![]() |
