When additional credits are awarded, the work unit status (including granted credit) is not updated. Then how are we supposed to know if it indeed happens? Keep our own daily count of points credited by project and cross-check it against all results? ![]() When you get results like this, I'm afraid I think my machine was better off doing some actual crunching than wasting time providing yet another error like all the others did: BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 6-- Too Late 12/03/09 14:02:55 13/03/09 19:24:42 15.86 200.7 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 5-- Aborted 12/03/09 13:54:28 12/03/09 14:02:23 0.11 0.7 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 4-- Error 12/03/09 13:54:16 13/03/09 00:40:15 10.72 178.5 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 3-- Error 11/03/09 20:00:01 12/03/09 11:14:10 15.21 126.8 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 2-- Error 11/03/09 19:59:39 12/03/09 13:53:49 13.50 167.0 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 1-- Error 10/03/09 17:28:56 11/03/09 19:47:47 18.14 147.9 / 0.0 BETA_ E000338_ 466A_ 00251a010_ 0-- Error 10/03/09 17:28:52 11/03/09 17:19:48 10.67 151.5 / 0.0 |

if you are beta testing, errors come with the territory that is how problems are solved, from mistakes and errors

if you are beta testing, errors come with the territory that is how problems are solved, from mistakes and errors How do we know the sun will come up tomorrow? Fact is, we don't. Aliens could have blown it up. We "know" sunrise will occur because we've seen it every other day of our lives. Similarly, we draw a conclusion about whether a beta WU will fail in future on the basis of whether it's failed every other time in the past. The scheduler decides to give up on a WU after it's failed X times, where X seems to be about 7 recently. My personal value of X is slightly lower. |

Why do tasks fail? The whole point of beta testing is to find out how and why tasks fail. Errors are just as valuable to the techs. Yes, this means seeing how (and if) the same task fails in the same way on all computers.
They want the errors! Your aborted tasks, on the other hand, help no-one. It counts as an error, but provides no information. Now, if you don't like having errors, we respect that. Simply opt out. |

Adding more failures of the same type is unlikely to help anyone. Yes, this used to be somewhat of a guess as to whether it was worth continuing a WU which has other failures, because we didn't know why the other WUs failed.
Today's web site update to allow us view the error logs for results returned by other users is excellent! It's often easy to tell from the logs whether one/some machine(s) crashed out in an "interesting" way or whether every participant crashed out in a systematic way, symptomatic of a faulty WU. Now that we can see that, I believe it's fair to apply Einstein: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". |

"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". I was thinking the same (at least about computers) until I start using Windows... I had to learn and accept that it was no longer true. Edit: In fact it is probably still true. The problem in the PC world is in appreciating that everything is always the same. Cheers. Great use of the new quorum partner log view feature. To me, layman, only the middle was probably valid and an additional copy should have been send out. The middle used the recommended client, the 3rd used a very Alpha test version of BOINC and the first is rather ancient release certainly not able to handle the graphical part, which is made to work with BOINC release 6. So, first and last, if you read this, get 6.2.28 (all windows). Much easier for support too. The update / downgrade takes but a minute.
